Thinking about a new PC Empty Thinking about a new PC

Post by Guest Sat Aug 11 2012, 10:40

My PC is ancient now (Dell) but has served me well so I'm thinking its time to get my wallet out . Just need a decent average home pc without all the fancy bells and whistles but quick, anyone got any good suggestions , recent experiences at the moment . Probably a bases station only as I have all the bits though I may get a new monitor.
Can't decide whether to go back to Dell or not, and not sure whose ripping me off on ther high street, seem to be a few new names on the market these days and Asus seem to figure quite well ???

Have a look at the link below Dave it's where I got my pc from. They are very good at giving advice too and the prices aren't too bad either. Do you built your own pc's are buy ready made?

This is wherte my hubby usually gets all his components from.

You don't have to wait for Windows 8 to come out, they're doing an offer for anyone who buys a PC with Windows 7 on: all they have to pay is £14.99 to get Windows 8 when it comes out.

They won't bring out a specific spec just for Windows 8.. It'll come with an i7 processor for sure, so all you have to do is make sure you buy a PC with an i7 (or something similar) which will be capable of handling Windows 8.

Just got a new desktop built from specs that should see me through for a good few years. Still in the box as had a busy weekend. Personally, I prefer to wait awhile with new Windows versions until most of the bugs are ironed out. Hate the way Microsoft uses the public as Beta testers.

also make sure its 2700k chip i7 not a 2600k i7 chip as tons differance and stay baway from the top end bulldozer chips as not been tested for win8

I was looking yesterday and thinking more like I3 or I 5, it doesn't really need to be fantastic for my needs, just office apps, Internet etc, I'm going to keep my old pc as my download machine and probably buy a new monitor that has TV as well so I can stick it on the wall and just flick it over now and again, and keep my old monitor for my new pc for a bit till I can afford a new one

if you are just surfing the web and using office stuff, dual core should be more than enough, an i5 quad core seems a bit excessive unless you use a lot of applications at the same time(run photo shop, email, you favorite game, and a few other things) but don't forget ram, you'll want 4+GB to be able to cope well with muti tasking

I agree with steve, i3 would be sufficient enough for what you want but definatly get 4gb ram

Yeah i3 is pants but if you're using only Microsoft office and surfing the net, its more than capable. Why pay extra if you're not going to take advantage of what i5 or i7 has to offer?

wazza, they be pants to you but for people who are only using a dual core chip, that with extra ram will make a big difference in speed and for a lot less cost than a i7 chip. my next pc is going to be built with a bulldozer hex core chip, windows 7 is fine for me, i was happy with xp until my pc broke
