First topic message reminder :
Check this little fella out - the epitome of cute.
His name's Soda, he's tiny, and he's snoozing away right now.
He's on foster with me for up to 11 days.

He's a good-looking boy.
I felt bad today - went to collect Olympic, who is kennelled close by to Soda and Tasha.
I got within about 20 feet of them and both Soda and Tasha went mad, then tried to lick me to death - only for me to leave with "another" dog.
Doesn't look like either have a forever home lined up - a few phone calls but seem to always be from people with toddlers.
You must be so strong to do this , I'd have ended up with 6 dogs for keeps by now

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
If I didn't have a new work pattern that has me either completely at home or away for very long hours, I'd have given both Soda and Tasha forever homes, Dave.
They're both awesome in their own right and seem to make a good team.
For now, all I can do is foster for blocks of four to 10 days to give a few of these lovely staffies a bit of a break, and see how they behave in my home.
It is saddening though - I went there today to collect Olympic and there were even more staffies in - they're coming in way quicker than they can be rehomed.
The kennel staff were all a bit glum and when I asked why they said because they were so chocka with dogs at the moment - not a kennel space or foster home free - and were unable to save nine other staffies in the pound, who were put to sleep today.
The breeding needs to stop.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
My next door neighbour had a look round the kennels recently before they bought off a breeder in the end to get a cocker spaniel, 1 kennels 90% staffs, the other 75% staffs . We bought from a breeder because my wife was a childminder and we wanted a puppy to make sure we had no issues and as you know they never want to let dogs go to homes with kids under 8, however , my wife is now giving it up , that's 1 we could have helped ... But then I suppose we wouldn't have Tommy ....

You did what was right in your circumstances Dave, no doubt.
Can I just say while I'm here, a big thanks to the board for this section, and for allowing me to post about the fosters - it really helps them.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
I find it so hard to understand how this can happen. You are so right the irresponsible breeding needs to stop.
I feel for the poor staff in the kennels who see this happen and the poor staffs that don't make it. This is heartbreaking.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
I am so happy to be able to write that Tasha was rehomed yesterday and will be accompanying her new dad to work so probably won't be home alone.
Knowledgeable and experienced guy apparently.
This has just made my week.
Soda is still looking though.

Great news for Tasha , sure Soda will find a forever home soon with all the hard work you've been putting in

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
While Soda would almost certainly love to find a home soon, his present situation is being eased by an accommodation change: he's moved from the kennel he shared with Tasha into one he now shares with Astra.
I walked the pair of them on Thursday and got covered in staffie kisses.
Astra is a less common chocolate colour.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
Chocolate sounds tastier.
Her history? Handed in at the pound. Rescued before being put to sleep.
Not a big staffy. Seems sensible and affectionate.
Somewhere around four years of age at a guess, but could be wrong.

There can often be a legit reason - for example housing associations suddenly deciding dogs can't stay any more and giving only a short time to rehome the dog. Dog can't find home, people can't take dog into house, dog can end up in pound.
Just looked at Astra's information and it doesn't actually say she's a poundie - maybe came from another route - ill owner etc (the rescue has had dogs come in when their owners have died. ).

You will have to excuse my outbrust. I never thought about the housing associations, ill owners etc. All I know so far is so many staffies have suffered hence my outbrust. Its good to know there are people like you out there.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
Double good news.
While Soda is still officially looking for a forever home, he has gone into long-term foster with a very very experienced pair of fosterers.
And Astra has been adopted.

Soda on a "pack walk" a couple of days ago - seems to be settling in well on foster.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
Bump for little Soda - one of the dinkiest-sized staffy males around.
he's loving it in his foster home where he's part of a pack but would love it even more if someone gave him a forever home and lots of love.
