Dog tags?
Hello we got vinnie a stainless steel tag with his name and our numbers on but now weve been told it HAS to have an adress and our name on? then other people are saying all you need is a number as hes getting microchipped anyway?
So now weve got to buy another one i guess and dont really want to pay as much as we did for the one we already got which is "no good" anyone know any cheapish ones online? Thanks

Re: Dog tags?
The law says that the tag must have your surname, address & optionally a phone number.
Mine says...........
My Surname
Address (just house number, road name & postcode)
Mobile Number
I'd have a look on ebay - some of them do free engraving in the cost of the tag.

Re: Dog tags?
Hi there,
I got all our dogs tags from this guy on ebay, they are better than the pets at home ones as you can have them double sided.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290734762478#ht_2574wt_1037
We were told by our dog trainer when we put Charlie in for his bronze test that you should have your surname, a contact tel no and your full address, but I have got just my postcode and house number on ours as that is also good enough, I put my mobile number on ours as we take the dogs away a lot so that is the best number for anyone to have. I also put the dogs name with our surname on them as well as saying Microchipped. I have got the large bone shaped tags engraved both sides and they were sent out the next day. Excellent service can't recommend highly enough.

I usually put my address on it, because if he goes missing it'll usually be in the area we live in, so knowing where he comes from is a must! Although he's chipped, normal members of the public don't have scanners so they could still return him (as long as they're honest!). I never put the dog's name on it though.

Re: Dog tags?
I have my surname, postcode and mobile number on the tags. There wasn't enough room on the tags for the full address. I never thought of putting the house number on it as well. I'll add that when I get them new tags.

Re: Dog tags?
The problem with just the postcode is that several houses can have the same one!

Re: Dog tags?
I have the same as Shelly etc above, although not sure what hubby wrote on the paper, I better check. I too thought it was ok to just have surname, and mobile number on.

No point for Dempsey - he goes into bushes etc a lot so it would likely be ripped off the collar. He's always losing the ordinary ones anyway, so the screw ones would be even worse!

Re: Dog tags?
On LuLu's I have my surname and phone numbers. I had this on Buster's last tag, but know that you are supposed to have your address so when he lost his I got new ones with my surname, 1st line of address, postcode and mobile number. I don't like having my address on things though, but I am far too paranoid! lol. I got mine off ebay. Loads to choose from and most are cheap with free engraving

Re: Dog tags?
Please check the link below, it may be the answer to lost ID tags. It's an ID collar. OK a little on the pricey side but if you need to replace both anyway:

Re: Dog tags?
Like Caryll says, it's a legal requirement to have your name (not the dogs) and your address.
I also have 'I'm chipped' on there as well to deter thieves. It's also a good idea to have 'neutered' if you have a bitch for the same reason IMO.

Kodi has his name, my mobile and "I am chipped"
Mazda has her name, my mobile and "I am chipped" and a 2nd tag says "I am deaf" on one side and "neutered" on the other

Re: Dog tags?
Skye and buster have their names and my mobile and a separate one with I am chipped
They never go out of my sight when we are out and we often travel so having our address is useless
My mobile number has not changed in 5 yrs and I never leave home without it
My previous gsds never had tags as they were always getting lost

Re: Dog tags?
We have these tags as I got fed up of replacing cheap ones
http://www.collarsandtags.co.uk/30mm-medium-deep-engraved-metal-paw-p-453.html
They have their name, chipped, address, mine and OH mobile numbers
Vin keeps stretching the rings on tags at the min so need to look for something robust to keep it on!
