Question About the Nipping
So, the main advice on here as to stop the biting is to ignore them so they know they'll get no attention when they bite. Does this mean even if they don't stop? I mean, if I ignore Loki after he bites me or is messing with my shoelaces or something, he won't stop until he's good and ready, he'll just enjoy not being told "no" and take the opportunity to continue. Does ignoring them only work if they bite you once, or do you ignore them no matter how long they're trying to bite you for until they give up on their own?

Re: Question About the Nipping
If he keeps nibbling at your shoe laces try putting something on them that tastes unpleasant, in theory he should then leave them alone. Bitter apple is quite good for this.

Re: Question About the Nipping
i wouldnt ignore if hes biting you ie, your skin, he'll never learn bite inhibition that way. try yelping or making a yip sound. its what dogs do when things go to far and he'll soon learn teath on skin is a no no

Re: Question About the Nipping
My pup is 19wks today and tbh I've not had any prob with nipping.
When he was 9 wks he bit my hubby and drew blood ! My hubby picked him up bellowed NO! and put him in a separate room on his own, for a time out.
He cried for 20mins. He hasn't nipped since and I'm being honest when I say that. When he mouths, we all use the same vocal correction 'Aaaa!' and ge stops immediately.
I rarely need to use voice commands with my 2 now. They know hand signals pretty well for Stop and leave. You really do need to be firm and assertive in the early weeks, not mean, but firm. Do not tolerate any unwanted behaviour and stay consistent because staffys are intelligent and will try it on if they think they can get away with it !

Re: Question About the Nipping
Thanks for the advice, everyone. Yeah, my problem is that I don't know how to be assertive. I can say no, I can shout it as loud as possible, make a loud clap, etc., and it doesn't make a difference. Guess it's a learning process for the both of us.

Re: Question About the Nipping
With patience and consistancy you will get there. You have to be firm every time though or Loki could get confused.
