Does your Staff swim??
i ask because mine doesnt.lol...
i know staffies are not the best swimmers but have yet to see Missy swim.
We have a canal right beside us so most of our walks are allong the banks. she will occasionally stick her face in the watter or put her front paws in but thats it. strange??
i have taken her down the slipway to get her used to the idea and she loved it! all four paws in the watter, splashing about, tail wagging but she will not go for a swim...
The weird thing is she likes the water. when we are by the sea she will run down the steep jagged rocks and stuff(which makes me very nearvous as she is very clumsy) through all the sea weed and into the watter. still doesnt swim though! you would think with the canal close by she would be more inclined to swim in there. when she sees other dogs doing it she looks awefully confused! haha
cheers

Benson? Swim? Ha ha! Nope! Not a chance!
In fact I don't think he'd seen moving water until 6 weeks ago, and he was petrified of a little beck!
Since then he's gone through barking at it, inviting it to play, running up to it and immediately away again and walking alongside it sneekily looking sideways at it! (In case it attacks?)
Plan to introduce him to the seaside later in the summer so that could be fun.
Our Dals could never wait to get in ANY water though they had the same dislike of rain as Staffs seem to have.
Anyway - would a Staff with one forelimb only swim in circles ? Just a thought

Bandit used to love splashing & paddling, but although he was a strong swimmer, he avoided it if he could!
Dempsey's the same.

Not a chance. Maska was super hot over December so we tried putting him in the pool, well that didn't work, I ended up holding him like a baby in my arms (although he seemed to enjoy the coolness of the pool). Neither of my dogs mind the water, they will play in water puddles after heavy rain, small dams etc, anything they can walk into and out of. As soon as there are steps involved you can forget it, they will not go near.

Stanley loves swimming but hates puddles He will do absolutely anything to avoid walking through a puddle but could easily spend a day splashing about and swimming in the local lake

Sounds just like my Dempsey! He'll kangaroo hop over a puddle to avoid his front feet getting wet!

Charlie loves swimming. He used to just splash about but he was playing with a lab one day and the lab jumped into the creek for a swim. Charlie jumped straight in after him. The look on his face when he realised there was no bottom was priceless! He loves to swim now.

Moo is a great little swimmer and its such great exersize. To start with she would paddle and then I used her stick, threw it in the water and off she swam to get it! She won't swim unless its to retrieve something though

Tyson loves splashing and running in and out of shallow water and puddles. He can and has had a swim or three in deep water but I would say he is not that into it.

As I don't have my Stafford yet, I can't answer although I will be teaching him to swim as I think it's such great exercise. I also know 3 Staffies that love swimming, they go underwater too!
When I got my JRT, he hated water, would side skirt puddles etc. but I taught him to swim and he lives it know

I don't know if Rocky can swim or not. We do have a country park near us that has a large lake as well as a river running through it which he has looked at several times, of course, but he has never gone in to try to swim.
Would be interesting to see him have another attempt in the lake this year.

Romeo doesnt like water, so i dont know if i will ever know. My nannas dog Zook used to like just sitting in the water to cool himself, and my brothers staffxpit LOVES to swim... we had some scary moments when we were out fishing in open water and he dived over the side.
Re: Does your Staff swim??
Lexi CAN swim (which i found out when she decided to jump into the pool) but she chooses not to. she loves going into the river and splashing about and will paddle in the sea but won't go past the cheset arena. Staffies notoriously don't like swimming apparently. Always a few exceptions though

Pixee when we first had her, fell into the canal off the lock, and went under twice, so she cant swim. However she will have a splash in the puddles when the mood takes her, heres one from yesterday

I don't think they are really big swimmers, although both of mine like paddling around the shallow waters a bit, my Juno used to be afraid as a pup, but I just kept taking her down to the beach and eventually she worked her way into having a paddle every now and then

Buster loves a paddle and splash about. He went for a swim once which he didnt enjoy. He was splashing about on the edge of a flooded river and stepped a bit too far and went in (he was onlead!) he managed to swim back on his own, but I think it might've put him off a bit.

Cairo hates water.I tried when she was younger to get her to paddle, but nope. She is not a water baby at all.If were out now and its wet,she goes the long way round to avoid puddles. Its funny to watch her picking her way past on the dryer parts of the ground

considering Winston's first brush with water was when he fell in our dam and sunk and my hubby had to leap in fully clothed to rescue him..it hasn't put him off..he loves water...we started off by using Jethro's life jacket on him, now he doesn't need it...He swims every day in our dam even though it's winter! And he loves puddles..the beach everywhere where there is water!
and my old boy Jethro loves swimming too..he is a lovely swimmer..

Lola was hesitant as a pup, still avoids puddles (and stands under trees or bushes if its raining) but has her moments. one came last year, on a walk and she quite literally threw herself into a river, and me and most of the people walking past couldnt stop laughing (ten foot run up, then a super dog leap from a couple of feet up the bank into deep water )
took her to the beach today, launched the first tennis ball into the water, she swam out and got it no problem, i threw the second one, she got to the waters edge and wouldnt go any further (bye bye new tennis ball) but half an hour later, and a misjudged throw she happily swam out again, so i just dont know with her

He's not keen on baths or puddles tho... Such a wee fuss pot

Sasha is in the water at every opportunity! We live on the coast and she is in the sea with waves crashing over her as she goes in search of the stone I have thrown in. When she gives up, she comes back and sits at my left looking up, waiting for another one!

Vin lurrrrvvv's swimming he didn't until he was about 3 (think jumping to get a ball on what he thought were leaves and ended up under water) didn't help. He's always paddled but never swam now he loves it. He won't jump in through has to go down a bank and set off

Oh my god! I am so proud! Meiko swam in the sea for the first time tonight! We were playing on the beach and I went in up to the top of my legs and Scott threw a stick for Meek, when Meiko clamped his jaws on it I pulled the other end gently and he really swam! We did this a few times then he did I by him self! Now I need a doggy life jacket! Oh I'm so happy

Lovely pics, Missy has such a kind face. My girls will paddle but avoid swimming wherever possible. However they will play fetch with a stick if you don't throw it too far out. Tali is a much better swimmer than Skibadee, think thats down to their build though. Tali is much more agile and a lighter build than Skibadee.
