urinary tract infection
Hi. My staffie Deebo is now 3yrs old. A few weeks ago,my son noticed blood in Deebo's urine. Took him to vets who said he had a 'urinary tract infection'. He had crystals forming in his bladder. He was given antibiotics and a bag of special dog food. Deebo is absolutely fine. If son had'nt noticed the blood, we would never have known anything was wrong. He was his usual boisterous self. The vet said that it was possible Deebo would need to be on the special diet for the rest of his life. At £55 a bag for a month, i was wondering if anyone can recommend a cheaper dogfood that would work just as well?

And did he say why that particular food was needed? What ingredient in it helps with the bladder crytals?

It's called 'URINARY S/O. But this is is what has been having for the month. Whether that is what the vet wants him to continue with, i'm not sure.

Re: urinary tract infection
Deebo apparently had too much salt in his diet which caused the infection. So i'm presumimg this dog food is low in salt

Re: urinary tract infection
Our old dog had the same issues and the vet recommended it to us. I'm by all means not a vet but it would be something worthy to discuss with yours.

Re: urinary tract infection
You can get this food from Amazon as in the link below. £55 for 14 kg bag. Or may be worth asking your vet if any other manufactures do a similar product.

They are grown in the north west and are high in antioxidants. There are some studies going on regarding the anitinfamatory benefits but nothing I have seen that proves any benefits. The best I know non steriodal anti-inflamatory drugs such as naprican are still the best treatment option as well as changes in diet and alchol consumption.

Re: urinary tract infection
Naprican is okay but takes a bit to begin to work for me but I have taken it for different reasons. I've always been able to speak with my doc about what has worked well for me and that's normally what I get. It could be worth mentioning the next time you have an issue
