Dogs and the rain Empty Dogs and the rain

Post by JAGULAR1974 Thu Jul 12 2012, 21:05

I know we are all probably quite frustrated with the English summer we are being blessed with and receiving but I'm also getting frustrated with the fact that the house training was going so well until it rains that nowthe dogs are suddenly allergic to water. Now Kasper (staffy x american bulldog 3months) has taken 2 steps back he was almost at the stage where he was telling us he wants to go out, and Jess (Jack Russell) will go out willingly in the rain for walks but as soon as she's in and wants to go she wont go to the garden for a few seconds and the kitchen tiles get a doggy steam wash (ugh). So now its back to cleaning and chastising after the fact which I know isn't the right thing to do but they know what they have done as soon as I enter the kitchen. So how do you cope with dogs allergies to rain unless they are being walked and save on detergent for the kitchen floor (missus not impressed).

we've had a couple more accidents this week , 1 being a curly one in the downstairs toilet ( the floor not the pan Smile ) but to be fair you can't blame a baby for not wanting to be out in that.
Do you have a garage , just a thought but maybe being let out in the garage with the door open and the concrete floor is closer to outside ??
Tommy's walking so for me if its raining hard then its clothes on last thing at night and walk and first thing in the morning and walk as he will stay out much longer on lead than he would ever do roaming the garden

I feel ur pain ! My 18wk pup was house trained but wheneva it rains he takes one look out the back door then obviously thinks 'sod that' and will do it on the floor. Thankfully we only have tiles and oak flooring so no carpets to worry about, but I have bought a vax bare floor pro steamer lol !

But yea, when I see him doing it I will pick him up and place him outside, can't really do more than that and watching out for the 'pee n poop dance'!

Dempsey's fine with the rain, unfortunately. It doesn't matter to him what the weather's like as long as he doesn't have to walk through puddles. doh

Yeah I've been stood in the rain with the coat and umbrella staring at the dogs who look like abandoned, dishevelled and for-lorn explaining to them the quicker you go the quicker we all go in. I'm sure the neighbours or anyone walking by think I'm crazy standing there with a torch at midnight in the rain whispering "go to poo, go to pee, good boy, good girl" cuz I certainly feel crazy. Then 5 mins later you go to say good night and a present on the floor that I really, really didn't want.

Thank you very much, although I recommend you all buy shares in flash floor cleaner because if I know the English weather ( we all do I'm sure) I'll be buying by the crate , cheers Tongues

I feel dead guilty now as we all sit and look out of the window and think "bed is a much better option", and thats Tilly and Tommy included.

Now I know what people mean when they say "Dave !!! you really should get out more" Rolling Eyes

Whenever it was raining, Loki would pee inches from the outside step, as if to show that he does know where he's meant to go, but can see how bad the weather is. Bless him, he tries Big Grin

Anyway, I solved that by walking outside to the bottom of the yard cos that's where he usually goes. He follows me most of the time, so when I go outside he usually will too. I've also been teaching him "come" so that works too. Try that if you haven't already? It's working well for me.

I know most people don't like wee pads but I've always used them to give my dog an acceptable place to go in the middle of the night or if they are left alone. The clean up is much easier.

We got them too, but the closest he came to weeing on it was the corner of it Laughing so they were useless for us.

When Zeus was a little smaller, he'd hate going out in the rain, he'd do it in the kitchen (luckily, we've got laminate flooring in there). He still does hate it but realises that he has no choice but to go outside whenever I open the door otherwise he'll get dragged out lol.

I did feel guilty when I used to drag him out when he didnt wanna go, and he'd stand outside in the rain looking at me with his puppy dog eyes, but it seems to have worked now, as he goes out, quickly does his business and runs back in looking for his treat!
