The runs!!!
My little Ralph has the runs!!
EW!
Poor little thing. I think it was the pork bone I got from the pet shop. It’s the first one he’s had and is the only thing that I’ve given to him that’s different to what he normally has – so I assume it’s that.
His toilet is very runny.
What’s the best course of action? The OH said to miss a meal to give it chance to work it’s way out, but the poor little thing will be starving – and surely will have lost lots of minerals and be dehydrated so surely it’s best to keep feeding him as normal... he has dry food so this should help to ‘harden it up a bit’. Also make sure he drinks lots of water?
What’s your advice guys?

Re: The runs!!!
Yep can happen as bones can be quite rich, You can get medication from the local pet shop to stop this and don't worry it will clear up straight away. Also not feeding for 24 hours will do him no harm and also let his system clear as well. Just make sure he has plenty fresh water.

Re: The runs!!!
I would feed him something light on the stomach, like a little boiled rice and plain chicken, or some scrambled egg. Keep up his fluid intake as he will dehydrate very quickly. Just keep him on the chicken and rice and/or scrambled egg for 24 hours, then slowly reintroduce his food over then next 24. He'll be fine, they're very resilient.

Re: The runs!!!
As Shontelle said. Bland chicken and brown rice worked wonders for our pup when she had rhe runs. Only small amounts at a time.
Hope it comes right soon

Re: The runs!!!
Thanks guys! I've got some white basmati rice at home - should I get brown then, is it better?
Also, got some breast left off the roast chicken from yesterday - If I take the skin off that will be ok?

Re: The runs!!!
White rice is fine if that's what you have. I guess the left over roast chicken would be okay (definitely take the skin off), if you have any fresh, that might be better.
Good luck, let is know how he goes

Absolutely not! He's much too young to leave feeding for 24 hours! You can certainly miss one meal, and then give him some boiled eggs or chicke (if he's tolerant of it) and rice for a couple of meals. Also, a product called Kaogel is good for easing any tummy pains he might have.

Re: The runs!!!
yes if you do the above he should come good..Winston had the runs for a few days the other week...I only gave him rice, eggs and chicken and turkey... I don't actually know what caused it, and he did have it for a few days... but I made sure he had unlimited water though..
We laughed when we took him walking and he would go to the toilet..the noises that came out his little bottom..poor thing!!

Re: The runs!!!
An adult dog I'd starve for 24 hours but not with a pup. I would miss a meal then just feed a bland meal like rice and chicken or fish and sweet potato like the others have suggested

Re: The runs!!!
Thank you all. The rice and chicken seem to have helped as his last poo was a lot better. Hopefully by the morning he'll be back to normal.
At least I won't have to hose down the patio - the rain should have washed everything away!!!
