Hating the lead and harness
Most dogs love walks and I reckon most dogs go mental everytime they see their owner pull out the lead. But no not my dog he absoluty hates it.As soon as i grab the lead or the harness or he hears it,he runs away and we have to kinda corner him to get it on him.when the harness is attached he will stand there static tail will go down and he looks soo sad.We have tryed giving him treats when we put the lead on etc but he still hates it,but as soon as we walk out the front door hes fine, why is my dog soo weird???How can I get him to like the lead??

They all have there strange little quirks! Whats he like when you get back from the walk? You could try leaving it on him whilst around the house

Re: Hating the lead and harness
You can maybe try leaving it in plain view for a few minutes before putting it on your dog. Let him have a sniff and a good look without you trying to get him into it.
We used to have a nylon harness, which was completely fine, then we bought a leather harness with a chest plate, and Maska did not like this thing one little bit. I don't know if it was the smell of the leather, of having something on his chest, but his response was the same. We just left it lying around for 2 days, (in a place where he could sniff and see it, but not chew it). After that, about 15 minutes before a walk, we'd take it out the cupboard, and just left it. This 15 minutes also seemed to calm Maska, who used to be hyper before and on the start of a walk, and now he's calm when we put it on, and he is calm on his walks.

Re: Hating the lead and harness
You could also just put it on for a minute or two at home, without taking him out. Then take it off & treat him. Do that often enough & he'll want it on so that he gets a treat at the end!

Try putting the harness on when you are not about to go out for a walk so he can get used to it being on. Then leave it on for awhile when you get back from your walk too.
We have a bit of a "Game" getting Rocky into his harness usually. I have to put a chair in the hall, then sit down and put my boots on, so he can then walk around me. Then he will stand still for the harness and collar to go on. It's like a little ritual I guess but it works for us.

Re: Hating the lead and harness
Put in on him more frequently even without a walk and reward each time. Also try leaving out where he can see it so he is used to it
