very sad and angry and shocked
i work in a small family business (my families) my bro-in-law employed a guy about 6 months ok , i thought he was ok and nice enough chap but i have been hearing some horrible things lately,
as you do when you meet someone new you talk about your family , pets hobbies etc ..i told him i had a staffy he told me he had 2 ebt
He told me that one of his ebt needed to be docked and of course a big frown came across my face, he said his dog was chasing his tail all the time and was chewing it , well i have heard of dogs doing this so didnt think anything of it except i thought to myself maybe the dog is bored and he needs to entertain him more . Well eventually the dog had his tail docked for medical reasons . we didnt speak about it for a couple of months and one morning i just asked how were his dogs , he said " they have gone" , i replied " what do you mean they have gone" , he then said" oh i got rid of them ". he had no feeling what so ever .
well this week some other guys have been chatting and saying how he is a bit weird , he asked a guy who likes to gamble if he would like to buy a scorpion and they could bet on scorpian fights. now dont get me wrong i hate the look of scorpians i dont have an ahh look how lovely they are in me , they are on a parr with snakes IMO ( sorry to whoever has all them snakes and lizards)but i find this mans kind of behaviour a bit disturbing . why would someone want to be so cruel , i voiced this to a particular colleague and he agreed with me but he then went on to tell me he likes dog fighting as well and how he wishes he could participate in this country . well my heart sank because i am now thinking of his dogs ...why did that dog need his tail docked and more to the point where are they ...he never said who he gave them to ...i cant look at the man in the same way i feel this heavy weight in my heart in not knowing the real story about those dogs ..in fact my other colleague wont have anything to do with him as his wife is a veterinary nurse and are very much dog ppl ....it just goes to show you think you know someone

Re: very sad and angry and shocked
how can anybody enjoy watching 2 dog ripping each to bit i would rather watch 2 bloke or 2 female fight when i was the tv program about the farmer boy in ireland give me nightmare for the next few days hear the dog that was struggling crying & trying to jump out of the ring
Re: very sad and angry and shocked
i like scorpions, but unfortunately they are not covered in the animal welfare act so fighting them is legal.

Re: very sad and angry and shocked
legal or not it is the mentality of it ...he obviously has no regard for animal welfare ...i just cant help but think his dogs have come to some kind of harm ...i am now thinking his dogs tail got bitten by another dog and the worst has since happened

What a complete b*stard.
The story about the tail is plausible (EBTs are well known for that type of behaviour) but why have they disappeared?

This is, Steve, it's an animal instinct. You get two feisty animals in close confines & they're likely to fight. Add to that the fact that these animals are trained (wherever possible) and you have a fight.

Re: very sad and angry and shocked
caryll he wouldnt say he just said they had gone and there was a kind of awkward silence , but he told me this about 4 months before i knew any of this other stuff so really i had no reason to be of concern or that anything untoward had happened to them , the liking of dog fighting i found out yesterday otherwise had i known before i would of interrogated him further

Steve wrote:no i mean talking about fighting rings.. i know thing fight
They only use 'game' dogs - ones who have demonstrated a willingness to get stuck in. Once they're in the ring they have to fight or be killed. It's survival instinct.

Steve wrote:like making 2 scorpions fight would be against the law right?
I don't think so - same as getting two rats to fight. I don't think the law covers it.

i think whatever it is for someone to want to make it fight for their own gratification is someone not worth knowing

Rats are classed as vermin - you can do almost anything to them.

Re: very sad and angry and shocked
this is such a such a sad post but so true you truly don,t know people and what goes on behind close doors, there are some sadistic sick people out there why would anyone get any joy in watching any animal fight, most of us with hearts get upset when we see dogs have alittle scrap well i do anyway, I like you would be worried about what happened too his dogs, lets just hope that somehow they went too a better place and i am not a violent person but lets hope this guy gets hit by a very large truck....!!

Making any animal fight for entertainment is just wrong.
