Re: runny poo
Could you please let us know what food the puppy is eating. Depending on this a little more protein may help.

Re: runny poo
Chicken and rice.
Also, you get all natural pro-biotics, which firms up their tummies, and puts back the electrolites. It is called Canigest here in SA

Re: runny poo
What food is she on?
At that age I'd give her something really bland - a boiled egg, or scrambled egg - and rest her stomach for 1 meal.
If it goes on longer than 24 hours have a quick word with your vet.

Re: runny poo
A young pup can be starved for 12hrs, but must have access to fresh clean water.
If shes been out into the garden and been nibbling at plants than that could start off an upset tummy.
Ideally you need to get yourself and keep in your cupboard some Kaogel You can buy this on the internet without a prescription.
Give 5-10ml per kg of body weight 3 or 4 times a day, it can be given on an empty stomach and helps calm the tummy down by lining it.
After give hard boiled eggs, or boiled white fish until her poo looks firmer. Slowly then introduce her normal diet, maybe mixing abit into her hard boiled eggs or boiled fish.
If the loose toilets is not returning add more normal diet to her bland food till shes just getting her normal diet again.
And if it was nibbling things she should'nt have outside watch her like a hawk as shes bound to do it again and start it all back up again.
Did this with a litter of 7 that had nibbled plants on their 1st trip to the garden and a vicious circle of watery toilets started.
Took them to the vets that gave me prescription diet and some stupid paste stuff. 24 hrs later their still the same So i did it the old way. Abit of glucose in their water to keep their sugar levels up and starved them for 12hrs and did and fed what i suggested you do.
Bingo it worked they hated the kaogel but it helped line their angry tummies.
If after trying this her toliets are still loose then it could be her diet, but i would'nt think so if you have kept her on what her breeder weaned her onto.

Re: runny poo
Its good stuff to have in the cupboards Caryll
Pepto-Bismol can be used if you haven't any Kaogel
This product can be used to treat nausea and diarrhea, but it shouldn’t be used in cats, because it contains salicylates. It is the anti-diarrheal of choice in ferrets. The dosage is 1 ml/8-10 lbs every 6-8 hours for dogs, and 0.5-1 ml/lb every 8 hours for ferrets. Side effects include discoloration of stools.
I have used this my self in the pasted too if i had run out of Kaogel.

Re: runny poo
she is on wainwirghts and has been since 7 weeks and her poos have been fine..she has been on white rice since yesterday and nothing is helping! she is fine in herself..a bit tired but she is fine.
im reluctant to take her out when shes like this too..
she has had two small portioned normal feeds mixed with rice today ..shall i not feed her now till tomorow morning or shall i give her just a chicken breast?

Chicken is fine.

Hope your little one's upset belly is better soon

Re: runny poo
I gave Rosco chicken on Tuesday and he had really bad tummy Tuesday and Wed, and still was having a few runny poos yesterday, i think the chicken might've been too much for him, what do you think? Took him to puppy classes yesterday and he had a runny poo in my car (errrrr) and was sick on my coat (double errrrrr) poor little fella.
I've just ordered some stuff off ebay which will hopefully help him.

Funny you should say but we gave Tommy a little bit of chicken and he was the same , it was hard not to as our older dog loves a bit. When Tilly was younger it was puppy food only so at this point not sure if its because of his age or whether he is not tolerant to chicken

Re: runny poo
Going to try the hard boiled eggs when i get home. Told my daughter to give him a dry piece of toast and plenty water. Took him off wet food too and just giving him science plan now but i've ordered a sample of fish4dogs.

Re: runny poo
What was his breeder feeding him ?? and have you stuck with their diet list or have you changed his diet completely.

Re: runny poo
breeder was giving him bakers, changed when i went to the vets, they recommended science plan and i'd been topping it up with wet food which tbh he's not been that keen on. He's a bit lazy with his feeding, i thought he'd like the chicken, he seems to love it at the time but the runny poos started that night, he had 2 nights of in and out with it and tummy ache but it's settled a bit now but still runny, but no runs in the night.
He's had just science plan biscuits today and 2 boiled eggs and a piece of dried toast, even limited treats today.

Well, I'm glad you got him off Bakers! What you need to do now is find a food he likes & keep him on it - if you keep changing you'll upset his tum.
As I said before, some dogs are chicken intolerant, so if you need to feed a bland diet, try him with some cooked white fish instead.

I think this has been going on a little too long, now. Have you tried giving him cooked white fish & rice?
Guest- Guest
Re: runny poo
no i haven't, he's had the runs since Tuesday night. Seems ok in himself now but it's still a bit runny. I've not given him anything else but science plan complete and dry toast/boiled eggs, limited treats too. He's had lots of water.
What fish do you suggest and do i just cook it in the oven? I'll do that tonight for him if you think it'll help.

Re: runny poo
Stop the Science plan, got a feeling its this at the moment thats too rich for his system.
The eggs, rice or fish is enough at the moment till his tummy calms down.
Once his having normal poos start to introduce his normal diet.

Re: runny poo
Well he wasn't too keen on the fish and rice and only ate a bit of it. But gave him boiled eggs this morning and he loved them, how many eggs can i give him a day? that is the only meal he's wolfed down like that, and poos and not as runny, a little bit but harder poos there too now.

Re: runny poo
Good to hear his toilets are firming back up.
If you mix some rice in with the egg then you wont be using so many eggs each meal, as your gonna need a good supply of them
Give enough eggs that look a good size meal when mashed.

Re: runny poo
ok thanks, i've been giving him eggs each meal, bought more yesterday and i'll mix rice in with his dinner eggs, is it ok to give lots of eggs to him?
He loves them, it's the only meal i've seen him wolf down. He was crying and wanted more.

Re: runny poo
Eggs are fine for the moment till his systems back to normal.
If he loves eggs that much you could carry on giving him eggs for his breakfast if you like.
Has he started to firm up ???

Rosco is back to his normal self now, solid poos, woo!
I've not put him back onto wet food, he has boiled eggs every few days and he's back onto the science plan biscuits, i did give him some fish 4 dogs treats last night and he went crazy for 10 mins, anyone else experienced this? Had to put him in his crate to calm down.
