Hot weather = runny poo? Empty Hot weather = runny poo?

Post by jola139 Wed Jul 25 2012, 21:33

Hi all
Debo is on Pero food for a long time and he's doing great on it. He had runny poo on the beging of haing this food but it was alright for a while. Since the hot weather's started his poo is more loose,it's fine first thing in the morning but later it's just loose. Do you thing the weather might affect him this way? I didn't give him anything new,he just drinks more and now having ice cubes.

The hot weather is likely to give an upset tummy and can aslo make them sick.

Keep giving the fluids and cover him with a wet towel if possible. As soon as the towel feels warm change for another wet one.

It could well be. As long as he's eating/drinking ok & he's lively & bright then I wouldn't worry. If he suddenly got bad diarrhea then I'd be a bit more concerned, but just a bit loose occasionally isn't really a problem. Just make sure he has fresh water down.

Kathy, don't cover with a wet towel! It acts like a sauna & actually increases body temperature!

Damping down their belly, head & paws can help to cool them down.

When my mum takes Moo out she uses her water bottle to wash it down (any soft poo), she always has one with the squirty jet top to wash the grass!

Bless her for being so ace.

Then she moans when we get right into the walk that she hasn't any water Laughing

I can't win!

The weather and increased consumption of liquid can have an affect.

The same things happened to Zeus, his morning poo is hard but the rest are runny. He was also sick last night because it was too humid.

Saffy had a funky poo's yesterday and usually she has 1-2 poops, but unusually had 4! I put it down to the weather. It's a bit cooler today and it's back to normal.
