cesar millan live show
Just got back from the cesar millan live show tour in the city. it was actually pretty interesting. they had a rottweiler obediance demo and lots of other stuff. they also had a sneak peek of the new show where he said he got biten by a dog and sent to the hospital for the first time. he mentioned it was the first TRUE case of dog aggression he had ever seen. do you know what the breed of dog was? A labrador called Holly. He also went on to say you cant judge a dog by its breed, all dogs can bite. they are dogs firstly and their breed secondly, i agree with that. it was nice to see someone advacating staffs, pits, rotties, GSD , Akitas and all other powerful breeds. Saying there is nothing wrong with any of these breeds, its juyst people who dont know what they are doing.
while i have never been cesar's biggest fan, he won me over a little big more tonight. he was actually rather amusing.

Glad you enjoyed it, but I don't like him or his methods. Not my cup of tea, either.

Re: cesar millan live show
It is always nice to see the breeds being properly supported even if I personally don't agree with all of his methods. I still like that he speaks common sense about breeds not having inherent "badness."

Re: cesar millan live show
Yeah he has done some bad methods in the past but I think he has done allot more good than bad. He was also allot better in his last series obviously feels like his methids are more under the microscope now due to some bad press in the past. I would of liked to have seen it.
What did you learn from it?

Re: cesar millan live show
i actually never liked him honestly, but i got the tickets for free. and yeah, i do not agree with many of his methods. i'm more of a its me or the dog. but he has been doing some good things and during his lecture he didn't demonstrate any of the methods that i'm very against. he did some work in spain, and for the non EU people here, they have BIG problems with dogs getting abused there
Re: cesar millan live show
i'm highly against this forcing your dog on their side and.. well kicking them. but the need to exercise your dog, and give boundarys as well as to realize its a dog first and foremost. i'm not so into this pack leader thing, i think its formed on old out of date data from the 40's and that dogs and wolves are too far removed from each other to really compare them on such a close level
Re: cesar millan live show
Glad you enjoyed the show. His methods notwithstanding, I think he does have some valid points and particularly about dog first then breed.

Im a big fan of cesar, i think he talks sense and knows what hes talking about.
Excersice, disipline, affection is something we follow and it works for our pooches.

He does have a way with some dogs but i believe its by bullying not dominating. I went right off him when i seen him lifting a husky off the ground with a choke collar.

I think if you watch his shows you can pick little things out that help you, without having to adopt his methods en masse!
Simply being "calm and assertive" is a good one to remember, "excercise, discipline and affection" in a good mantra, I find the "tchhh" sound he makes quite effective in various ways, sitting before entering the house, sitting and waiting before food is received and a few other things that I can't remember off the top of my head!!
Each to their own I guess.

Re: cesar millan live show
Whilst I agree that you can pick out bits & pieces of what he does & use them to good effect, the general public see him as a 'whole' and will take what he says/does as gospel. Hence a spate of dogs being choked/kicked/alpha-rolled & generally scared into obedience & then turned over to behaviourists to sort out their problems.
Still, we've had enough debates about Cesar's methods & I don't want to see this one getting to those levels again!
