Advice please
Just been out on a long with Moo, half way through the walk I looked down and there where loads of spots of blood on the ground, really obvious because of the snow. I didn't think anything of it as Moo was running and playing fine. Any way cut a long story short, it's Moo's claw, its not bothering her but there was a lot of blood. I have stemmed the blood now but the claw looks a real mess. Before I go rushing o the vets, cause I don't really know what they could do anyway, I just wanted someones advice.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Advice please
the best thing to do is clean the wound first and she how bad it is, e.g. see does it need to be stitched, if not try and keep to covered pour some zinc boric and starch powder on it. this good for cuts and abrasions if not put some germalene on it. and keep it covered. it should heal in a few days

Re: Advice please
I agree. If it's the claw there isn't much the vet will do anyway. Just make sure it's really clean, cause you don't want tetanus to be a problem.

Re: Advice please
Hiya janey, i no its not exactly the same but ty split his pad a while ago the one higher up his leg, i took him to the vets and they just gave him some antibiotics and just said to try and keep him quiet (he obviously doesnt have a staff) and clean etc. Anyway he did knock it and stuff for a couple of days and made it bleed but it did heal after a while....x

Re: Advice please
The only other thing you could do would be to strap it up with a bandage, but if she's anything like mine, she'll chew it off in minutes!
Guest- Guest
Re: Advice please
yeah she probably wont leave a bandage on her foot, but she will lick it herself and clean it, they say dogs tongue has has great healing properties when it comes to cuts like that

Re: Advice please
Aw poor moo hope she feels better soon.As you say its the claw it should heal itself but may take a little longer as its hard so as the others have said keep clean and hibiscrub is great its cheap and you can get it from the chemist also vaseline is great to put a barrier on before she goes out to protect her from any germs

Re: Advice please
Little update, ended up taking Moo to the vets today as it was still bleeding. She has managed to mangle her claw, split up both sides! The nurse has glued and dressed it and I have to go back Christmas eve for another check up. Thankfully I haven't had to pay, the nurse was great and they also love how Moo is so well behaved. There isn't a lot they can do that I hadn't, but as I couldn't get on here for reassurance, I ended up rather worried.
Its worse than I thought, but fingers crossed it will heal.
Next advice I need, what the hell do you do with an extremly bored Staffy, cause she is only allowed on short lead walks so the dressing stays in place!?!?!?!?!?

Re: Advice please
You give her a bottle of Jack Daniels in with her water so she'll be comatose for the rest of the week!
Seriously, all you can do is try to keep her mind active & hope she doesn't start climbing the walls!

Re: Advice please
Hey POOR MOO MOO... she looks very cute.
I dont know if you can get VET TAPE over there... is only sticks to itself. I use it to bandage my fingers while working ( nails ;0 )
anyway when Titan had a split nail we used to wrap that over the top of the vets bandage and change it every day... he has perm issues with his nails splitting so if he goes out on a long walk my sister wraps them to stop them scraping on the ground seems to work.
you can buy it from Horse supplies they use it to wrap the horses hoofs and tails before showing to keep them clean.
Hope Moo is feeling better.

Re: Advice please
God, how bad is that, now its all bandaged I have no idea which claw!! its the outside one though, so not the due claw, so cant be removed easily, although shes done a good job of that herself!! Its just gonna take time, and if it doesn't heal, the way she has brocken it she'll need a local anithestic to remove the claw! Bl**dy dogs lol x

Im not saying nothing.....and names you have no chance.
See told you I would keep hush Steve
I got Blues removed when I got him castrated as he ripped one off the night before he got castrated. It cost me £65 to remove both as he was going under anyway. Otherwise I think they quoted £125 per dew claw.

Re: Advice please
Cheers Mr Steve!
It's not a claw that can b removed, wish it was! Anyone fancy a overly bouncy dog for a while?? Don't ask, don't get lol x

Re: Advice please
Yeah I know was just saying for Kaiser. Arrrr poor Moo. That's the things with staffs they bounce about and worry about the pain later. I feel for you Janey know what your going through. Blue is very high energy and had to stay inside for 2 weeks when he got castrated. He was a bloody knightmare. Someone needs to invent something that can drain their energy without them using their legs.

Feel for you both. When Blue couldn't walk for them 2 weeks I kept finding myself about to take him out then think oh yeah I can't. Sat there twiggling my thumbs as I had 2 hours extra per day. Do you feel lost not being abe to take her out?

Problem starts tomorrow though cause I'm back at work and have the walker in, the bandage has to stay dry till xmas eve when we go back, unless she'll be out of action all over xmas!!

Re: Advice please
Well, second check up today, and..... She is outta action for another 4 days, really gutted. The vets clipped all the snapped claw off cause it wasn't healing. But its still open, so until the claw grows back down we are only to do lead walks

If you cant get to your vet and moo keeps opening it up as long as its only nail/claw you could superglue it closed just till the vet opens its a tempory solution
