Front leg stiff
Little Zoe over the last couple of weeks seemed to have developed a limp which had gotten worse, she held her leg really stiff and would drag her paw on the ground as she walked, when I tried to gently move the lower joints or shoulder she tensed even more. I had my wife her to the local vet while I was working to have it checked which the vet put her under to manipulate the joints for x-ray.....he could find nothing wrong so has put her on a course of pain killers being one needle of something once a week for 3 weeks.....
She seems to worse since the visit....it really looks like she has no feeling in the paw, it looks like she is dragging it due to holding the whole leg stiff as a board...and if she stumbles she just nose dives as it looks like she cannot comtrol it....there does not appear any sloppiness in an around the joints....but while rubbing gently but firm it seems thee is pain on the "forearm" part of her leg like the muscle or ligament area on the outer side....
Really at a loss, am thinking of going to next town to get a second opinion, but really hoping someone might know what it could be or what I can be looking for to help give the vet an idea what to look for.....
Really need assistance as it is killing me to watch her in this pain.....

Re: Front leg stiff
It does sound like muscle or ligament problem, which an x-ray won't pick up. I'm surprised that the vet thought it necessary for injection of painkillers, unless it was something else?
I'd be tempted to either go back & say the treatment isn't working, or go to another vet & ask for a second opinion.
Are you insured?

Did the x-rays show anything up at all? Mine was on a course of injections, can't remember the name now. Have you completely rested her for x amount of days?

Re: Front leg stiff
I would be inclined to get a second opinion anyway, once when I was at the vets with another dog, not Rocky, they gave me a solution then offered for another vet at the surgery to come in and give a second opinion there and then anyway. Thought this was quite responsible actually. Needless to say I still use this vets.

Re: Front leg stiff
X-rays showed nothing at all, she has been kept rested, well as much as you can keep an 8 month old rested.....pretty much kept inside except for toilet breaks.
I spoke to the vet yesterday as I had to make an appointment for her next needle, explained she has gotten worse since her visit and told him what she is displaying and he says he might have been looking at the wrong area or for the wrong thing.....
Visit is Saturday morning, so hopefully will get this all fixed up....

Not something I would take lying down! I hope they don't intend to charge you and if they do I would go to another vets!

Re: Front leg stiff
Another visit this morning....vet has taken some blood tests which will get results back monday afternoon, he now seems to think it is Panosteitis. He has given me a course of Ilium Meloxicam for her which is an anti-inlammitory and pain killer, wants to wait for the blood results to return and will do another lot of x-rays to try and confirm..
Will know more then I hope....

Re: Front leg stiff
I havnt been on for a while, this being due to grieving from the loss of my little Zoe, the vets eventually found the cause of her stiff leg a little too late.....tetanus was what they eventually found as the cause when we took her back early one morning as she had lost all ability to stand and was all stiff in all limbs. The vets did try but were not able to save her through the night with anaphalatic shock from the anti toxin(?) given to her being the final fight she did not win.....

Re: Front leg stiff
it was explained to me the infection was found in between the pads on her foot, and which had healed on the outside, but a grass seed was found under the skin which had caused the infection to start festering internally... apparently rare in dogs, and but found commonly in cattle and horses, which we have plenty of both in the area
