advice needed plz
Hi
Wondering if anyone can help, I have a 21 mth staffie male, he as daft as a brush around ppl, but.over the week.end he jumped the fence and had an altercation with nxt drs dog, there was no mark on his dog but he phoned the police and reported me for having a dangerous dog, they have been trying for the last yr to have him put down all because he a staffie. He has een castracted and has been around other dogs with out any problems. The police have contacted me and they want to come out ansd assess if he dangerous, does anyone know what the assessment entails and is there anything else I can do to prove he not a danger to anyone, he has been booked in for socialization classes as was told this will help wen police file their report, any advice would be gratefully helpful, my children are devastated he might be put down.

Re: advice needed plz
I'm truely sorry for you, but I doubt they will find your dog to be dangerous. I don't live in a place where that is common, but I think you are going about it properly. However, if I were you I'd make sure he couldn't get over or under the fence by condoning off a portion or making it higher with lattice etc. what a wretched thing that people have it in for your dog...

Re: advice needed plz
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Do your neighbours have any evidence of your dog being dangerously out of control?? Did they take any photographs of the altercation? Do you have any video of him being around other dogs/socialising with them? If not it may be an idea to get some if you can.
How aprroachable are your neighbours, are you on speaking terms with them. If so ask them to come around to where you live and to be introduced to your dog. They will then see for themselves how playful he is.
I dont think you have to worry about your dog being put down.
Is there anything you can do to make the fence a bit more secure perhaps by making it a little higher???

Do you keep a diary log of the incidents of verbal abuse?
Are you renting from social housing association?

Re: advice needed plz
Im very sorry this has happened. The police will assess if he is dangerous to humans not dogs, as if they started looking for any dogs that were a danger to other dogs and animals then they wouldn't have any dogs left in the country.
Just keep your cool and say yes, he is not the best with other dogs and you take this into consideration every time you walk him by no letting him off leash, and this incident he escaped and you weren't aware he could jump that high and now you know you are going to look into making the fence higher or getting a pen built.
Don't start throwing insults at the neighbours saying they are just out to get you and your dog as this will only make them think you are stuck in a neighbour war and it will all get so confusing. Just hold your hands up and say it was an accidnet you are sorry and you are taking steps to make sure it never happens again.

Re: advice needed plz
Being the bigger person can get the police on your side sometimes. Then if the neighbours complain about you again and again they will assume they are just odd and not listen to them cause you are perfectly fine in their eyes lol

Re: advice needed plz
Hi and welcome from us and Suki. When you have the fence built higher have them slant it inwards like you see in a prison. That will prevent him from jumping it anymore

Re: advice needed plz
Hi and welcome from us..
Agree with hayley..and lots of good advice given..
What is next doors dog? Is it agressive towards your dog? Just wondered if it did anything to male your dog jump to get to it..
I got taken to court over a dog fight once..my dog was in the garden with my mum and toddler when an off lead dog came up to the fence..my dog managed to scramble under the gate and went for collie, he made a mess of his shoulder. Unfortunately I wasn't there at the time.. I visited the owner, apologized and paid half the vet bills but I did stress that had their dog not been aloud to run up to my gate my dog wouldn't have reacted...
Anyway they took me to court, don't quite know what outcome they were hoping for, but I stood up in court and said the same to the judge..very scary!
The judge requested we made the fencing more secure and we walked him on a lead at all times..case dismissed!
If the dog isn't a danger to people you have nothing to worry about x

They have a jack Russell abt 6mth old, he constantly jumping up at my fence barking and jumping at my sons bedroom window, as it faces onto their garden, I can't say anything to them as I get a load of abusive back abt how dangerous Staffies are.

Re: advice needed plz
No wonder your bertie jumped over he was prob sick of the yapping! I don't want to diss jrt but they are more likely to bite a person than a staffi, think your neighbour needs to do some research!
Just hope you can get moved soon!
