Advice needed please
HI, Firstly I would like to thank you for the warm welcome Chewie and I received what a lovely bunch you are .
I need some advice please if possible, Chewie is 9 months and I have had her since she was 7 months she was a rescue dog so didn't have the best start in life. She is a nervous dog but she is a lot better than what she was, she is house trained and always tells me when she needs to go so no problems there but its when I have to go out without her and she will pick up on this at least 10 minutes before I leave the house that's where my problems starts when she has realized I'm going to leave her she will lay on her bed and start peeing and shacking and she will pee in the house while I'm out and does the same when I walk back in the house. I try and calm her down but it doesn't seem to help. There is only Chewie and I in the house apart from weekends when my children are with me so there are times (not many) when i do have to leave her. So how do I stop this from happening its not good for her and its not good for my carpet lol. If anyone has any advice I sure would appreciate it.
Cheers
Adam.

Re: Advice needed please
this has to be a gradual thing im afraid start with going into another room and closing the door stay there for a few minutes then back into the room where chewie is. Because she is a rescue and dnt knw her background there will have been periods of time where shes been left for a certain amount of time. She will be worried you will abandon her and aren't coming back id leave soft music in the room while leaving her alone also if she doesn't make a noise when you are out the room a few minutes give her a treat. Its allabout building the trust up took me a long time but got there with mia . i know it may not be ideal but if you leave the house for a certain amount of time could you get someone to come and sit with chewie ?.

Re: Advice needed please
As mentioned above it will be something that will take time to achieve. I don't really have any experience with this sort of thing but have you tried introducing something that she enjoys before you have to go and while you're away. Like a really fun toy or a Kong that you can fill with treats so that she associates you leaving with something good and rewarding?

All good advice. If you build up gradually she will get used to it. We also make sure to exercise Suki before we leave so she is more likely to just sleep.

Re: Advice needed please
Great advice above and exactly what I would do. It could be a form of separation anxiety but leaving Chewie with something nice to chew on like a frozen stuffed Kong or the likes should take his mind off you leaving. When you return don't make a huge fuss, I know it's hard to resist but just act as though you've not been out.
Let us know how you get on Adam.
