Whining
Hello All,
I come to you on bending knee. I have a 10 week old Staffy that whines while at work. I was informed this by building manager from downstairs neighbor. I have tried many things but nothing seems to work and the pressure from my neighbor doesn't seem to help either. Any suggestions please.

Hiya,
Theres been a lot of posts about this so dont worry your not on your own! Have you tried crate training, never done it myself but people swear by it. Also, your staffy is still very young, is it left alone for a long period of time?? Lots of toys/distractions etc, and maybe try leaving the house and then returning 5 mins later and repeating this so the dog gets to realise you are always coming back. x

Re: Whining
My pup does it at times to, he just doesnt like been left alone for too long, and they still miss mom! .. try leaving something with the pup that smells of you, also try leaving the radio or tv on low .. as said above leave toys to keep em occupied .. Mine is now fast asleep when i come back from been out for an hour or 2, he whines when he can still hear us but obv calms down while we're out enough to drift of

Re: Whining
Well i work at full time job so he's left alone for quite some time. I take him out when i wake up and before i leave. Then 3 more times once i get off. I've left toys in his crate, i left tv music stations on, i even left a damp rag with my scent on it and nothing seems to work.

Re: Whining
He is very young so it is probably something that he will grow out of. After how long being left on his own does he start to whine? Is there no chance a family member could pop in, in the middle of the day to break up the lonely times?

Re: Whining
I actually don't know when he starts to whine. I need to get a tape recorder. I moved out of my city to start my life over so for now no family or friends is around.

Re: Whining
So hard isnt it.. a new puppy and then you working full time. ( i assume 8-9 hours a day).
I am lucky in that repsect. My salon is attached to my house.. so I will be able to have a close eye on her at all times and I have had clients ask me already.. "please can she lay her with us while I have my nails done"...
(not to sure how the health department will see that LOL).. maybe I could pretend she is a therapy dog lol.
I would perhaps take the Dog walking suggestion. See if there is a responsible uni student who could use the exercise and the few extra $.. that way puppy might be tired enough to sleep thru the rest of the afternoon for you.
I hope you calm him down soon xx

Re: Whining
Sorry to say but that is far too long for any dog of any age. You really need to look into someone coming in in the day time, I know its hard, I have just been through the same thing, my dog came to work and I have just changed jobs and she cant, she is walked morning and then a dog walker in the afternoon and than again when I am home. 7 hours is far too long for a 10 month old pup.

Re: Whining
I agree , you wouldnt leave a new born at home all day while you work.
I think you have done a brave thing B Love in coming to this board for help with your puppy, please dont think that we are all ganging up on you, but 10 week old puppy should have your friendly face around most on the time.. it is a crucial part of her "infancy" Have a look at some old posts of seperation Anxiety... you want to nip this is the butt now..
If it make you feel and better I did a similar thing to a past dog too.... life got in the way at the criticle time
chin up and get it sorted ASAP.. then your puppy will feel secure and happy

Re: Whining
We can advise on our pesonal experiences and leaving a pup/any dog for 7 hours is a very bad start to life, your gonna have to put the pup first on this one, you need to find a solution that works.

Re: Whining
ye as the others have said its far to long to be leaving a ten week old puppy even 1 hour to a pup is a long long time in there eyes, even a fully grown dog needs to be left no longer than about 4 hours so like its been said for the sake of the pup please try and sort something more sutable out they will love you all the more for it

Re: Whining
Can only speak from experience, got my first stafford a few days before he was seven weeks. I was away at work between 8 and 10 hours a day( gotta pay for his upkeep) did'nt do him any harm he's almost 10 and is a grand dog (laying snoozing infront of blazing fire at moment) it's what you do with them in the time you spend with them that makes them the dog they are. As for the whining allow never used it a ticking clock wrapped in a towel and radio on in back ground is supposed to help.

Re: Whining
7hours is a pretty long time for a pup who is still getting used to been away from mom and the litter etc .. all dogs are diff some are ok and some dont take well to it .. but as said above i personally wouldnt leave mine alone that long but everyones situations are differant. I would try the dog walkers for afternoon etc pups also been socialised more by this aswell.
As said above, dont take this as been ganged up on, just everyones point of views .. hope the pup settles for ya soon
