Pet Insurance Cover (options)
Hi everyone,
I have a 10wk old puppy called Milan. Milan has just had her 10wk injection and has been micro-chipped. With the chip she has 4 weeks free insurance with pet plan, i have today been looking at quotes with various companies and would appreciate some advice on the type of cover to take out. I have been looking at annual cover and life cover, for affordability reasons the annual cover is looking pretty tempting, however are there any long term health concerns related to staffies that maybe i should take into considersation? or do any of you have any experiences that you could share with me?, so that hopefully i can come to the best decsion.
Milan is our first family dog and i just want to make sure i'm doing the best for her and us, so your replies would be greatly appreciated

Re: Pet Insurance Cover (options)
With our last dogs we put money aside in a bank account but we were lucky as they never needed the vets apart from normal spaying and jabs both dogs lived to a healthy 12 and 11 yrs and were gsds so big dogs with normally quite a few health issues
We haven't needed to start an account for our 2 now as there is still a bit already put aside
It's not everybody's ideal way but it has worked for us so far

Re: Pet Insurance Cover (options)
Thanks for the replies, i still have a few weeks to decide so will look into it further. I think the main concern i have heard about with staffies is cataracts, so i guess i will look into that a bit further, like if Milan was to develop this what the treatment would entail? for how long? etc, as from what i have found annual cover would just cover treatment for that period of time, and, life cover would provide any ongoing treatment. i surpose its like with any insurance its the risk you take

Re: Pet Insurance Cover (options)
I use Sainsburys - £7500 per condition for life with an excess of £75. It costs me £17 a month, but that's because I made £5000 worth of claims during the 1st year!

Re: Pet Insurance Cover (options)
Only just picked up on this. We have always insured with Tesco, they pay up like a dream, even covering hydrotherapy when Murphy had cruciate ligament repair. We currently pay £26 per month total for him (aged 9) and Madge (aged 2). it's not always the amount you pay out but if the company pays the account without resorting to the small print and saying it's not covered.
I appreciate that some people just save the amount each month but if you're faced with a £2,000 bill for investigations (personal knowledge of this) it's unlikely that you'll have that put by.
Always your choice.
