We have just insured Rocky with Argos Pet Insurance on a Lifetime policy. The premium is £15.24 per month.

We were previously with PetPlan who wanted £22.50 per month for the same cover.

With Argos we went for the Platinum Policy which should pay out £7,000 in vet fees, £2 Million in 3rd Party Liability and with £65 excess per incident.

I'm with Sainsburys - £17 per month, but that's after claiming a lot - before the renewal it was about £15. My cover's for £7500 per condition for life.

I have Millie and Bella with petplan. It's £44.51 for the 2 and £90 excess. Covered for life up to £4000. Its quite a lot I think and I should probably have shopped around a bit more.

i have just this second took out a policy with Argos which worked out at 17. something a month but that cos river aint spayed yet when she is it will go down about 2 quid.. and they pay direct to vets with excess of 65 quid..bonus..just cancelled my other one after a month, would rather pay the fee than be un covered for more stuff than covered for.and have to pay vets fee's first then claim.. i dont plan for river need expensive treatment but if she does i aint gonna magic 400 quid plus outta thin air while i wait for insurance to cough up...was with a private company i should checked first.. still all happy now Smile

Well done, good for you. You just have that piece of mind when you do insure them.

I can remember when growing up and having a dog but we didn't have insurance this was OK until she needed to have her spleen removed which cost about £350.00 (this was about 20 years ago) quite a hole in the rather small wage packet that week. Sad

Glad to have found all this advice on Insurance, I was about to re-new the policy that Heston came with from the rescue centre (petplan). I went and got a couple of different quotes which all came out pretty similar apart from Argos. I can afford the Platinum grade with Argos for up to £7000 cover and it is still cheaper (and just as comprehensive) as Petplans mid range cover!

Many Thanks x

Hope you don't have problems but my lad has just cancelled Argos due to loads of problems with incorrect letters coming through the post about cancellations and non payment which were all clerical errors , then a big dispute over payment for an eye problem. He's just followed my lead and gone to Direct Line for the top end policy.
I pay £23.00 a month for Tilly , we had a claim last year when she hurt her leg and it was all hassle free. The lad is paying £43.00 a monthe for the same cover level on 2 English Bull Mastiffs

Same as Janey. Blue is with Animal Friends.
To be honest I have no idea if they are good or not as I haven't had to try and claim with them yet and hopefully touch wood I won't have to.
I think you find out how good insurance is when you have to make a claim

I think you'll find that most of the (main) insurance providers will pay direct to a vet. It's the vet's rules that can be the problem! My vet says that anything under £300 must be paid by the client & claimed back from the insurance company, and anything over that they'll do a direct claim. However in practice it'd open to negotiation. Last year they did a direct claim for me for £175. But then they've made a lot of money out of me!
