Scarlets behaviour.
ok ive had scarlet 2 weeks now and everything ws fine first week 2nd week has been a nightmare. She has settled in well but will not go outside to pee or poo! ive been crate training her for a week now to no avail and she does not listen to anyone! she gets treated and made a fuss of everytime she does something good (but its very very rare!). She gets taken out every 45 mins - 1 hour as she does cry when she needs out, as shes in her crate and cant be trusted out of it. she gets to play with us for about 30 - 45 mins after the loo (as after about 35 minuties she is tired!), shes started crying in the night again, and if she been told not to do something she just flat out ignores it! so if she nips or mouths on someone i will not make eye contact and ignore her but she goes and does it again! ive hadfrozen carrots, peanut butter and even had a meat stick frozen for her from a butchers (a friend said it would help!) for her teething and mouthing but nothing and im being patient with her but im getting no help from the other half and im starting to loose my cool a bit with everything! I dont snap at her, i dont hit her, i always give a firm no but i broke down the other day because im actually at a loss, i dont know what to do anymore! I know every dog is different and i am being as patient as i can be but she is just ignoring me every step of the way and i really am struggling.
Re: Scarlets behaviour.
Is OH being as strict as you are? Training has to be consistent or they won't learn and it will take longer x

Re: Scarlets behaviour.
Oh, you poor thing. It isn't easy, is it? In my house I've always been the one to do everything for any pup/dog we've had & sometimes you feel as though banging your head against a brick wall would be nice in comparison!
She shouldn't be teething yet as she's only 8 weeks old. But that's the thing, you see. Most pups wouldn't even go to their new home until 8 weeks, and so you're now getting behaviour that you would have thought normal if you'd just got her.
Be consistent & patient. Go right back to basics on everything, act as though you've never taught her anything before. She will get through this, and so will you! Then she'll be the best friend you've ever had!

Re: Scarlets behaviour.
i dunno the scale at the vets was 34.5 with in little letter (kg) it seemed wrong to me lmao! i have been saying to my partner it must be wrong lol!
Re: Scarlets behaviour.
I think the scale is off as well. If you have one at home weigh yourself first and then get back on holding the dog

Re: Scarlets behaviour.
i dont have one but she back at the vets on the 16th of march i shall ask the vet why the scale is why it is lol
Re: Scarlets behaviour.
but yeah anyways im having to sleep down stairs with scarlet is that bad? as she still seems unsettled at night?
Re: Scarlets behaviour.
yes it is bad, you will end up sleeping downstairs for years.
Just out her in the crate at night, close the door and go to bed and ignore any whinning, it may take a week but she will stop. Make sure she had got some blankets, and some newspaper down in case she wants to go to the toilet, and maybe a toy, and you could put the radio on low for some company. It will work, puppies are like new babies they require all your time and effort, but it will all come together in time.

It can take a couple of months to get the message home sometimes. Dempsey wasn't fully housetrained till he was about 9 or 10 months old. But then he's thick!

Let's put it this way....Dempsey is only 30 kilos!

Oooooh, bad, bad, bad!! The only way you'll get her to stop is either have you in your room at night or just leave her to whine. She will soon get to settle if you leave her be.

Re: Scarlets behaviour.
She probably weighs somewhere between 3.5kg and 5kg. Tyson was 5kg when I got him at 9 weeks.

Re: Scarlets behaviour.
i feel your pain. it really doesnt seem like nearly 2 years since i was where you are now. i used to sit and cry and ask him why he was doing this to me. you will get there and as advised by everyone you need to ignore the whining at night. try sleeping with a blanket to get your scent on it and then place that in the crate with her - hopefully that may help. i was lucky with woody as he got the house training straight away - he didnt like to toilet in his crate and so would wait all night.
by the way gorgeous girl!

Yeah she's actually changed the past few days I've noticed her listening more and she's now settling upstairs thank god! She sleeps in her cate with the door open in the day now she comes upstairs at night and lies with me she's feels more comfortable but she is getting on think I was having a bad day. She's a lovely pup
