Car sickness
As title, can this be trained under control or will it always be there? Just took a run to my cousins in Glasgow which is about 30min drive from mine and he starts drooling etc, then we had about 30-40min rest when we got there, in which he had a drink, run about, and a wee sleep then on the way home he was sick in the car . Would it help if I took him out in the car just on short 5-10 minute journeys to get him used to it and gradually build it up ??

Definatly, and make sure he is fed long before you set out or even wait till you get to the destination first.

Re: Car sickness
Hi yes wee short journeys preferably not after a meal should help- slow driving and avoiding bendy roads with the heater down and window open a wee bit -if its not too cold can also help.

Re: Car sickness
Mine used to throw up evey time they wemt in the car
I found that it was due to feeding them befor travelling. Even if they had eaten at 6am and we travelled at 10am.
I have now stopped feeding them until we have done our journeys.
The sickness is due to food laying heavy in the belly, the motion of the car, heat and bumps in the road etc.
Try taking them out in the car before feeding them and see if this makes a difference to the sickness. if it does try it every time you need to take them anywhere in the car and you should see an improvement

Re: Car sickness
a vet was talking on the radio about this a while back, he said try just one ginger nut biscuit before you take off..the ginger in it may settle their tummy.

Re: Car sickness
I think ginger is very good at settling their tummys. Rocky often has a piece of ginger chew. Check the link below, we just bite off a small piece for Rocky they are really for us mere humans too. We buy these in our local healthfood shop.

Re: Car sickness
Hi Stu,
Janey is correct in what she says and regarding food...just make sure your car seats or boot are well covered over incase it does happen again.
Best of Luck
