motion sickness??
hi, we have a beautiful 24week old female pup, we got her at 8 weeks and had 2 drive about 2 hours to get her including a boat trip, she was fine in the car and on the boat. she was fine in the car on long and short trips untill about 6 weeks ago. now even a 5min drive to the cops she is sick.
the vets have been no help at all telling us that there is nothing they can do unless its for long trips to knock her out.
can any one help or give me some ideas of things to try to stop her being sick?
shes fine getting in the car, loves sitting in the car, but as soon as it starts moving she dribbles and it just gets worse and worse then she is sick and starts all over again. have tried her on some1s lat in the front, on back seats and now have a car cage for her and is still sick every time
thanks

Re: motion sickness??
Is the dog laying down or can it see out of the windows. Sometimes if they see things going past that can make them sick.

She's going through one of the developmental fear stages, so you need to act now or she'll be bad in cars forever!
Have you tried an Adaptil Spray? That might help to keep her calm during journeys.
I'd go right back to basics & pretend she's never been in a car before. Start off by putting her in the car, then take her out straight away. Don't even shut the door. Then increase the time she's in the car with the door open.
Once she's comfortable with that, get her in the car, shut the door & get in yourself. Sit still for a minute, totally ignoring her & then get out & get her out. Once she is happy to sit in the car for 10 minutes, start the engine. If she stresses, wait a minute & then turn it off & get out again. Go back a stage & try again. If she's ok, drive a few feet & then stop again.
Build this up gradually (I know it's a pain, but it will work eventually) & she'll be ok.
