Heart Failure and update on Esta
Esta had a bad night last night. She was struggling to breathe and was coughing a lot. This morning I called the vet who came to the house to see her. I was all prepared for him to say we have to have her PTS. But, after he examined her he thinks that some diuretic tablets may well help her. She had an injection and has been weeing loads and is still very quiet but she`s a happy little girl. Don`t know how long she can keep going like this, but she`s not in pain etc so, if these tablets work then we`ll go with it. x

Thanks guys, Will have to wait and see. Just going by what the vet recommends. He said if she was his dog he`d give her a chance to see if they work. Time will tell I guess. x

Re: Heart Failure and update on Esta
Hope it all works for you and the tablets do a good job, I took our old boy to the vets 3 times thinking he wan't coming back and our Vet gave me the best advice "you will know yourself when the time is right, if you have to ask me then it's not time" and it was the best bit of advice ever.
She looks like a lovely old girl, good luck and best wishes

Kathie, I'm sorry I've not been on here as much in the last week and I missed your original post about Etsa.
Glad the diuretics have helped. If she can pass the fluid it wont build up too much in her blood system or body, this will put less strain on her heart and allow the other medications to work better.
I don't have a dog with this, but this is how my dad lives everyday of his life and it does take it's toll on those closest to him. I can only imagine what it would be like with your beloved dog.
My old girl is 15 years old this coming Sat (4th Feb) and health issues are coming to the fore much more now than ever before.
Sending you big hugs and an old girls smile. ><

Re: Heart Failure and update on Esta
Im so sorry, we had our girl, blitz, PTS last may. She was 16 years old. I understand how difficult it can be dealing with a pet with organ failure. Blitz suffered from kidney failure. It's heart breaking. Again im so sorry.

It is and I thought that by having another one soon afterwards it might take my mind off it a bit. It has in a way cos my boy is 11 months so still a puppy. On the other hand I do remember how Esta was even though they are nothing alike. I think sometimes "well Esta wouldn`t have done that" or "Esta would have loved this". But it will take time and each day it`s getting a bit easier. I bet your old girl was lovely! xx
