Dogs on Death Row
Theres a BBC 1 [uk] programme on tonight: Dogs on Death Row
Highlighting the dog fighting etc etc - maby some staffy type breeds mentioned.... oh and the dogs trust part has been cut out !
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01bbvfk
There has been a huge uproar over this prog on facebook ... gonna be an interesting watch but I fear also very damaging.

Re: Dogs on Death Row
Death Row Dogs looks at the growing problem of illegal fighting dogs on the streets of Britain. Despite being banned in the early 90s, pit bulls have become the dog of choice for criminals; sentences are lower than for carrying a knife or a gun but the results can be just as severe. However the problem is not just confined to pit bulls, injuries caused by dogs are at record levels and rising. Sadly fatalities are not uncommon.
This film gains access to the work of the West Midlands Police Dangerous Dog Unit as they try to tackle the growing problem. We see raids on high profile gang members, crack dealers, a suspected fighting dog ring and a mother who keeps a pit bull for protection. Due to the current law the police sometimes have to destroy a sociable dog and let potentially violent ones go free.
We also follow the tragic stories of families who have had a child killed by an out of control dog. How did it happen? Could it have been prevented? And how have the family dealt with the shocking trauma of such a brutal death?
The film asks whether the current laws work? Why dangerous dogs like the fearsome pit bulls are such an issue? And what can be done to stop the problem getting worse?

Re: Dogs on Death Row
there alot of crazy people on facebook who do more harm then good to the bully breeds.
Re: Dogs on Death Row
indeed Steve - nonetheless - Why are there no programmes on the nanny dog ?
on the real true nature of staffs/pits etc ?
Dogs are what we make them - in the wrong hands the entire breed is tarred with the same brush.

Re: Dogs on Death Row
the show is about how chavs, wannabe and drug dealers are using dog as weapon and they getting away with it. it's not anti bully breeds like some people are saying on facebook.
Re: Dogs on Death Row

Re: Dogs on Death Row
Poor, poor Tyson...... I so hate DDA, that poor lil mite was friendly to everyone even tho it had a disgraceful home.. And because of the owners it had to be PTS... Wrong, wrong so wrong.... How the hell did she have him when she was banned from having pets due to cruelty.... They need to sort this out first

I don't think it was anti bull breed, but hylighted the problem.
Scum owners.
Sadly killing out that population is harder than sorting the dog problem.

Re: Dogs on Death Row
Disgusting, a dog is not a commidity, Its a luxury and until scum can see that we fight a loosing battle.
Any dog can be good, any dog can fight, it depends who's hands it is in.
Man kind has hell of a lot to pay for, and yes there is a % that needs shooting, humans not dogs!

I can't watch these shows anymore, it really breaks my heart. I can't bear looking at a harmless Stafford or any dog for that matter knowing that they'll be PTS.

human right act gives to much right to scum which is wrong and that why we in the mess we are now.
Re: Dogs on Death Row
People on programs like that make me sick. They do find the scum of the earth
They are truely down and outs, and do not deserve to walk on this planet.
I wouldn't trust them with a snail, how to solve the problem is another issue.

you have to get tough on them janey that the only way, talking to these people it will go in one ear and out the next. these people are passing on their nasty way to their kids
Re: Dogs on Death Row
Jesus, I wish I hadn't of watched it! Put it on iPlayer when I saw the status on Facebook. That poor baby Tyson, wagging until the very end bless him! It's disgusting how the law works, even the police man said it was hard.
Like I commented, she should've been put bloody down, before she gets ANOTHER dog she isn't legally allowed to keep, banned breed or otherwise!

Not only that but she was already banned! Why did they not punish her for breaking an order against her? Oh I know, because "it's her Son's!" Grrr

probably because it was easier and cheaper to get rid of the dog than punish the owners

Good point! They're quick to fine you for parking illegally or dropping a cig in the street, but hey! Break an order, it's cool! Pffftt...
Not that I condone either of these

Re: Dogs on Death Row
This really effin upset me to watch , you just need to take one look at the owners, and the sh!tholes they live in to know the poor dogs dont really stand a chance
That poor little fella that got PTS ... I looked down at Max's big lumpy blue head on my lap, fast asleep, and completely oblivious to what some of his kind have to go through and it broke my heart
I cant explain the contempt I feel towards that type of scum why cant the people that make the decisions wake the F*ck up, and do summut about them !!! and stop putting inocent, healthy, loving animals to sleep ...
I'm off to boil my head

Both of you are right. They're always looking to cut costs at the expense of what really matters, and prosecutions/sentences are way too lenient. We need people to know that they will be prosecuted and get tougher sentences, that's the only deterrant.

Re: Dogs on Death Row
i watched this programm and it was illegal pitbull bull types not staffies. it is up to the individual i'm afraid to make the distinction but you will always get some idiot that thinks they are all the same. people need to be educated on the different breeds but they won't check it all out themselves when it is easier to switch on the telly that is full of specific breeds. this show showed s lovely dog that even the police said was a shame because it was classed as a pitbull type.
