Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
Hi everyone
Just booked Tilly in to get her bits sorted next Thursday. Veterinary Nurse has basically told me on the lead in the garden for 2 days , stitches out after 10 days and just keep her quiet for that period with lead walks as normal after the first 2 days. She will be the most pampered pooch ever , but I would appreciate advice from everyone on how long recommended for her being fully back in action and her normal excitable self and any other advice you can offer
Thanks all

sasha took a couple of days to be semi normal but her spay was'nt straight foreward, think most dogs seem ok the day after, like janey said its keeping her calm for 10-14 days after!we brought our bed down stairs so sasha would'nt try to get up stairs, things we do eh!sure it will be fine.

Must admit I am really worried for her I know it's a straight forward op for her but I've also been told it's the equivalent of a hysterectomy for a lady and my mum had that done before she passed away so I know how major that is, she's my baby (who is currently culed up on my feet as I'm typing) so I'm always going to worry

She won't be able to do the stairs ?? never even hought of that one, she also always jumps on the couch when we lie on it so I suppose that one is out of the question, looks like the airbed will be coming out , we only have safety gates in the kitchen for my wife's business (childminder) and no way will we lock her in their all night, makes you realise th downside of lettig the dog have the run of the house and the furniture

I know it's slightly different, but when Dempsey had his stomach operation he was really sore for about 2 or 3 days & couldn't do too much. After that he decided he was ok & tried to get back to normal! Trouble was, every time he tried to jump up somewhere he'd hurt himself & yelp.
The stitches came out after 10 days & then we were told to give him just lead walks for about 7-10 days after that.
When I had my first bitch spayed (40+ years ago!) she had a bandage around her middle & she wasn't allowed out for 14 days! Considering she was a very active Border Collie, that was sheer hell on earth!

Know exactly what you mean, my first worry is that someone forgets about the lead in the garden , as when she's let out for a wee the first thing she does is go tearing off down the bottom looking for on of the cats

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
I can vouch for the effort to keep them calm. Almost want to just slip them some pills...

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
She's a little sorry for herself at the mo , sickly through last night and moping today but that might have just been waiting for the rain to stop so she can get a good run out, and thats before the op

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
Cant remember how to cope with a girl being spayed. Last had a bitch too long ago. As for being like hystorectomy they are probably right. Doggies do tend to be tons tougher than humans though. But still I would be cautious with over activity etc.

Tilly has 1 hour and 45 mins of eating time left before the op tomorrow, she seems to be sulking so I think she has heard me on the phone to the Vet

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
Thanks Janey , bit stressed now after other recent events , dropped her off at the vets about an hour ago with her teddy and poor little bugger looked terrified. We only came back from leaving her for a couple of days and then as she sees it we decided not to feed her last night and dump her again this morning All we can do is sit and wait now

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
She'll forgive you. She'll be really groggy and sleepy when you pick her up and just want cuddles, in a couple of days she'll be right as rain and as I said it will be you trying to keep her still!!
What time you picking her up? 4ish Xx

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
Got a call about 1.30 to say all had gone well and she was just coming round, can pick her up about 3.30 but have to wait another 30mins for my daughter to get in from school to come with me. Looks like I will have to set up her bed downstairs and sleep on the couch tonight, but at least I know she's ok and thanks for the kind words

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
I bet that is a relief... desexing is pretty safe these days, but when our beloved pets are at the vets having any sort of op, it can be quite stressful till we get the phone call from them saying all is well!

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
aww cute. glad she is ok. Let us know how you get on keeping Tilly calm the next couple of weeks. We'll be going through this with Dora in a few months - I'm quite nervous about it :/
Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
At the moment calm isn't a problem , she's just laid under my desk with a big pair of sad eyes looking at me and feeding her water by syringe (there's a bowl right next to her but I think she's just going to make us work for it

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
she's much more with it now, snook out of the office whilst I wasnt looking and jumped on to the bed for a snuggle with mummy, got ot put a stop to that for a few days (jumping not snuggles) but no sign of an appetite yet , even tried her with a small piece of doggy choc, not interested

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
She'll eat when she is good and ready, and thats the actions I warned about, sneaky little buggers, never seem no when they shouldn't be jumping! Need eyes in the back of your head

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
Had a mopey day, then bolted downstairs to see the neighbour , miraculously found she could use her legs after I've been hand feeding her as she looked like she couldn't make it on to her feet. Currently on bed with mum (after lifting up) for a cuddle, off to the Vets in the morning to get her stitches checked , but something tells me she's going to pull through ok

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
Dave she's a lovely looking bitch and lovely build
I had my two jack russells done at 6mths old...it takes nearly 2 days for the anesthetic to ware off properly, they tend to drink more than eat at first but i know mine wore the collars for 2wks because jessie kept trying to mess with her stitiches.
>< to Tilly

Thanks for the kind words but unfortunately the vet thinks she's podgy Had her in this morning to have her stitches checked and she's doing fine, he explained to me that they had to cut her further for exploration as there was a bit much fat there to check everything properly, she's quite diddy and 16.5kg so we've been set a tartget of 15kg. Promised her when she gets the stitches out we are going to lose weigh together in true daddy / daughter style

I think she's probably about the same height as Kita and the most she ever weighed was around 16.5kg, she didn't look podgy, "just not as lean as other times". Now she is 3kg lighter, wish I could shed 3kg without any effort

Glad she is doing so well Poor Tilly having to go on a doggy diet. Millie had to go on one, I got into trouble off the vet every time I took her so far with Bella they keep saying her weight is fine but she's still a pup.

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
I have the opposite problem with Dora. We keep being told to feed her up! I increase her food every time we go to the vets and she still tells me to increase it more - because Dora is a busy little dog - haha!
I already feed her loads more than it says on the packet!

Re: Tilly's booked in for her lady op next week
Herman was underweight when he adopted me. we're at the vets regularly checking his weight. once when Herman was a couple pounds overweight the vet said he's not fat, he's just like any other athlete, Herman just needed to "optimize" lol
