Toilet and walks.
Does anyone elses dog not go to the toilet when out on a walk ? Monty hasn't been when out at all yet, yet when we get back in the house, I put him straight out the garden, and he toilets straight away. I'm guessing he's more comfortable in going in a place that he knows is 'his grounds' ?

Suki goes about 10 different times when she is out. I think she believes everyplace is her territory and likes to let everyone know it.

Re: Toilet and walks.
Dempsey was like that for the first few weeks of being able to go out. Eventually, though, he couldn't hold it in any longer on a walk, and he's been ok ever since!
I used to get dressed very quickly in the morning and take him out straight away before he had a chance to go in the garden. I even used to carry him out the door so that he had to hold it till he was in the street!

Strange isn't it ! Tbh I feel more comfortable that he doesn't go in the street and would prefer he do it in his own patch. But I think I better start carrying something just incase he decides to spontaneously show me up one evening

Ah gone are the days where Monty couldn't hold in the middle of the night and I'd hear him yelp and whatever hour to be let out. OR, he would pee in his bed ... it's amazing how they learn as they get older !

My boss's dog will only go in the garden. Trouble with that is taht if they take her out for a long walk, she'll be busting to go by the time they get back, and that can't be good for her!
I'd rather he just goes wherever he needs to & I carry several poo bags everwhere I go - I think every pocket of all my coats etc has a poo bag in it!

Ledger wont go in the yard he has pee'd out there once when it was snowing and he didn't want to go for a walk but now even if he really needs to he still wont until I take him out to the park (which is literally just the other side of the back gate). He then will also * his leg multiple times when we are out. On our run on Sunday I counted 6 times in half a mile which isn't great for my training especially when it started raining and he refused to go any further!
He is also quite shy when it comes to pooping initially he would only go in long grass and even now will often turn around and stick his bum in a bush first. I also feel like a magician producing poo bags from every pocket

Re: Toilet and walks.
Since our walks are not for doing the business as such, going toilet walk is not an issue. Thank goodness he does go if he needs to (Zulick never could go on the leash and would hold it in). Tyson has his regular spots for both on each route. I also carry poo bags when out but most of the time, Ty is polite enough to go off the path into the brush on the side. He does not like doing his stuff on hard surfaces it seems. If he goes in the park or other public areas we of course use our bags.

Tinkerbell hadn't really been out for much walks before we got her. According to her last owner's neighbour she was in the garden most of her day. When she came to us she wouldn't be able to hold her wee or poo in at all, when she had to go, she had to go now! All to do with the fact she could go when she wanted outside in the garden.
It meant that we had no time to get dressed and take her out in the mornings, she would wake us at 6am every morning to toilet. If we tried getting up before her, oh used to set his alarm for 5.30am to chuck her out before it was done in the kitchen, she would hear us get up and need to go before we came downstairs. Now by teaching her a toilet comman and a hell of a lot of patience we have finally got her to go on a walk. She still has to use the garden in the morning, first thing but can hold on for walks now. I much prefer this so that she is comfortable going when she needs to, and it means less poo to pick up from the garden.
We have a bone shaped poo bag holder that we picked up from the pound shop. It holds a roll of poo bags and is attached to her lead, so wherever we go we have bags, and saves them going in the washing machine
