Love your opinion please
I just don't get it! Had a friend over tonight, who for the first time bought there collie x 18mnth neutered dog over.
Now these 2 no each other very well, we have walked together for a couple of months and never a problem. She'll even disapear to find him in the woods when I don't even no he is there and come back with one of his balls. All play.
Anyway we thought it maybe good for the 2 to meet in our homes. Moo went to Ralphs (the dog) for a very brief meeting last week, I was soaked so stayed on the doorstep. she went in and Ralph was fine with it. Ralph comes here tonight so we walked them together and came home, Ralph couldn't get past the door, Moo kept having a go.
When we went to meet another staff, Lynnes Billy, the 2 got on like a house on fire, couldn't stop them playing!
Is it because its her home, is because its to small to play in (even though he didn't get in the door), is she just teritorial, I just don't get it??
Does it mean I will never be allowed another dog whilst she is here?? Or even a visitor?
Or do I give it time, they have known each other months now and she appeared quite a bully TBH.
Do I take it that another dog i my home, even one she no's is never gonna happen?? Xx
Thanks in advance Xx

Re: Love your opinion please
it depends on how she was introduced at the door. it is one thing to play outseide like you say but another to come into her home. It is her space. If the other dog is giddy then it won't go well at all. The other dog needs to be calm and so does Moo. Tell her to go back from the door and bring the other dog in on his lead just a couple of feet let her see him in and get used to him being there. Don't let her bark or make any sound if she does tell her to shush. The visit needs to be stress free and calm not all "oh hi come on in and play" its not that she doesnt like him its just he has never been to her home and she has to get used to visitors. dont let her put you off its your home not just hers and you can invite man or beast in and she has no say.

Re: Love your opinion please
It is most likely that Moo is just a bit territorial. Girlies can be much more protective of their homes than boys, but each is an idividual. Sounds like Moo might fit into the territorial catagory. Like Julie says, you may have to do it more slowely and in baby steps. Doesn't mean she doesn't like the other pooch, just not in her lair. Hopefully it gets sorted with a little patience and some work and you can have him come inside for a visit.

Re: Love your opinion please
Totally agree, Janey. It's her home & she wanted everyone to know it. If they come round again, keep both dogs on a lead & don't allow them to play. Keep them both quiet & calm.
Dogs are funny things, they can be friendly as anything but they won't allow another dog into their 'territory'.
A while ago (you might remember) I looked after Pneuma (my boss's gsd) for a couple of months. It took me 5 goes to get Dempsey to allow her into the house, and yet they've played together since they were both puppies with Dempsey always being the boos. But he wasn't happy at all with her being here.
They did eventually settle, but when noonoo went back home, it all changed again. He now won't allow her in the door again! A lot depends on routine & how often it happens.

Agree entirely,it's her home and her territory.
What about taking the two for a walk then bringing them into the home.

Re: Love your opinion please
Thank you all. I know and I think it will just take time.
They have met on numerous occasions and I think Moo was just being very teritorial. Just a shame she can go to his house but he can't come to her.
Will keep trying. Thanks all again, just kinda confrimed my opinion Xx

Re: Love your opinion please
You could also try leaving something with the other dog scent on it in your home a day or two before they are going to visit. Sometimes that will help.

Re: Love your opinion please
Moo probably is being territorial. It all depends on whether the other dog came in with the right amount of respect and deferance to Moo in her space. She obviously put out the right moves when she entered Ralph's home.
It sounds like she and Billy play on neutral turf?

No she met Billy off a train and they had a kinda growl at each other but again as soon a they where at Lynnes house Billy let her in no problem and they where great.
Would just be kinda easier if these 2 could get along!
Time I guess, thanks for all the suggestions Xx

Re: Love your opinion please
Woo hoo go janey , Moo will be fine done at a gradual speed on her terms she is being cautious as its not the usual thing to do bringing home boys .
When duke used to go out for the day to a show on returning home he would be tail in the air stiff and no greeting until he had checked us all out individualy all the rooms in the house and the garden his ritual was so funny only when he knew we had no-one in while hed been away was he happy to give us a kiss and a wag of his tail.
What would we do without them to entertain us
