a little disaster...
just came back home and found our living room full of shredded porridge box pieces...
unfortunately, the box was half full few hours before when I left the flat it must have falled off the shelf and Mambo helped himself to about 150-200grams of golden syrup porridge (dry of course)... he drank A LOT of water after that.at least the room now smells nice and sweet of golden syrup...
of course that messes up his prescription diet a bit... I hope porridge is not 'dangerous'? In the end it's just oats...
ehhh it's no good to come back home from work to the surprise like this!

I would'nt let him drink any more water just icecubes!! It will swell up in his tummy. Keep a close eye on him and ANY signs of discomfort call the vet as he could bloat.

Just keep an eye open as oats do have a diuretic effect.

Re: a little disaster...
I had to let him drink some water because it was with golden sirup, I can imagine he was very thirsty after that...
I walked him just after I came back home and he already pooped once and it was definitely 'porridge poop'.. so he must have eaten it shortly after I left home...
He seems just fine now, more thirsty than usually.
I'm not sure if I should give him his evening meal - not sure if it would help to digest the porrdige or rather make it all worse.

Naughty Mambo, sorry
Pleased it has done no harm, I probably wouldn't feed him, let the oats get out of his system Xx

I also find it funny to some extend, he must have been so excited he could have such a treat !
yes, I don't think feeding him now is a good idea, he seems full enough. He will get another walk in about 2-3 hours and I think I might actually set an alarm clock for 3am to walk him again to make sure he will not surprise us in the morning - Im sure he will need at least 3 walks to get this out and I'm almost sure he won't need much time to get it out - it will just go straight through him, considering his digestion problems...
Re: a little disaster...
Thats why I can kinda sympathise. Hope it will be ok. Its so annoying to get a set back Xx

Re: a little disaster...
My friends dog had digestion problems very badly. I got so used to walking into her house and seeing vomit all over the place i just got over it and would walk in and go oops, the dog exploded! He had a too long oscophogas or something, but the whole thing was made worse by the horrible abuse he has as a pup. He was a grey hound that was raced into the ground then dumped and was found literally near dead. He couldn't eat properly after this and the shelter just thought he was skinny but he actually had problems so had to be fed with his paws up on the bench and his head help up with anti nausea tablets the vet had said an op would kill him because he was so skinny. He would get taken off the family or phone calls to the cops nearly every day/week and eventually the cops and rescue knew they dog well enough to not have to bother to, but the worst part was when people though "omg that poor dog" and fed it loads of food which obviously was VERY bad for it (he was on anti gluten anti everything really..science plan!) He passed away a few months ago unfortunately. They think his little body just gave up because he couldnt get enough nutrients from the food because he couldn't stomach anything, so in a way its better for him. Was NOT a pleasant end though, accordign to the carpet.

Equi - awww poor dog
Mambo's got his blood tests done at the beginning of Dec and it turns out his small bowel isn't absorbing enough so he's losing weight. Plus, he's got some 'typical staffy' skin allergies... so now he's on prescription food (royal canin hypoallergenic) that he modified with a bit of porridge... I don't think oats will actually harm him, but form previous experience when we tried normal dry food, I expect A LOT of poop...
unfortunately, he's still hungry (of course, he always is!) and demanding his supper at the moment!

Oh, dear, he really doesn't know what's good for him, does he? I'm sure he'll be ok but as you say, be prepared for a few porridge poops!
Yep, cornflakes are just that - bits of corn squished flat & dried!
