Lead??
Hi Can one one recommend a good lead, my Bella is now in the habbit of chewing right through hers if left alone outside shops etc.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.
Re: Lead??
All sorts of leads here. If you really want a non chewable type I would say a metal chain lead would probably be best.

Re: Lead??
Mine has chewed through at least three including a leather one. Dont think anything other than a chain link would stop them if they are determined enough.

Re: Lead??
Well, I personally would never leave my dog outside a shop. There are too many staffs (and other breeds) stolen & used as bait dogs.
The best way is to teach her not to chew the lead, and to either leave her at home if you're going shopping or get avriend to go with you & hold her when you go inside the shop.

Re: Lead??
I too wouldn't leave a staff outside a shop for longer than a second, let alone long enough to chew through a lead.
But to stop chewing a lead like the others have said a chain one would be best!

Agree with all above , the only time Tilly will ever be left outside a shop is if I'm on my own and its the local post office where I can tie her up, see her all the time and I'm 10 steps away if anyone tries to snaffle her away. If you buy a chain lead then remember it will still have a nylon or leather handle and she will just chew through that, the only real solution is a chain or take out all her teeth

Re: Lead??
I have to say that I hate chain leads! They are so hard on the hands, especially with a strong dog like any of the bully breeds!

Re: Lead??
Im sure there is a lead which is made so that you cant cut through it so therefore I guess they are pretty robust and a dog would find it hard not to chew threw it will have a hunt around but I would also never leave my dogs tied up outside a shop.

Re: Lead??
I have one of these leads

I love the spring and I doubt if Bella could eat through it.

Re: Lead??
A staff will very easily chew through any leather lead, I'm afraid.
Bandit (my last staff) chewed through a thick plaited lead just like that in about 5 minutes.

Re: Lead??
I use a heavy duty chain lead with a medium/large leather handle.
If the hard leather doesn't suit your tastes, there are leads that have padded handles. But chain definitely is a big turn-off to dogs that chew.

Re: Lead??
I don't think leaving any dog outside a shop is a good idea.. you just don't know what will happen. I also don't like the chain leads as you don't really get any warning before they snap, unlike on a leather leash where you can see wear very easily and will know to replace it.
Re: Lead??
I dislike doing it, but very rarely will do it to Junior if that all, because he WILL be stolen. Kellev can be left but only because he will snap and warn that he's MY dog and not anyone else. Good as gold if I'm around though. I love him for that.
You want to stop your dog from chewing the lead? Put something foul tasting all over it, but not toxic, so she has the most unpleasant taste when she gets hold of it. She should learn from that.
Some extra training in the "Leave it!" command won't go a-miss either. <3
