Raw feeding.
I know there's loadsssss of threads on this subject but was wondering if anyone has a young pup and feeds raw (Bailey is 15 weeks on Thursday) and could give me a quick list of what you feed your pup a day, I'm currently feeding Bailey on James Wellbeloved, but I'm not too sure on it as his poo's are soft and he was sick last night when he was tried on a different flavour! Thanks for any help

Re: Raw feeding.
He was fed exactly as I would feed any other raw fed dog: 80% muscle, 10% squishy organs and 10% edible bones. (Prey model raw) Whole chickens are a great way to start any dog when beginning to feed raw. Either give the whole chicken, let him eat his fill and put it back in the fridge or cut it into smaller meals. Big, challenging meals can help tire out a puppy, though.

Agree here. I use prey model as well.

Re: Raw feeding.
So you just put down a whole chicken? I don't think Bailey would stop haha! Might give that a try though thanks!

Re: Raw feeding.
They are better at self regulation than you might think. However, of he eats without stopping you may need to quarter the chicken and pace him.

Re: Raw feeding.
Think I'll need to get a chicken soon then! Would I just feed his dry food in the morning and then some chicken for his other 2 feeds? He's getting fed at 8am, 1pm and 6pm.

Re: Raw feeding.
If you are going to do both raw and kibble, I'd break it up simalar to what you suggest. I didn't do it gradually, just went cold to raw, but sometimes that results in "issues."

Thanks mate! I will look into it more and will probably get chicken and try him on it first and see how it goes!

Re: Raw feeding.
I never bothered with feeding kibble, i swapped to raw and neither of my dogs have had any dry/wet food since. Have a look at this site as with raw you do need to read up about it:

Re: Raw feeding.
My experience is that they usually get tired from eating bigger cuts of meat so they take a break and you can put it back in the fridge/freezer, however keep an eye on them and take it away if necessary.

I agree with all the above. But if you are goinf to feed raw & processed (kibble), then feed the raw in the morning & kibble in the evening (the middle one would be better as raw as well) because of the difference in digestion times.

Re: Raw feeding.
I would be feeding both just to gradually swap him over to raw, plus just to see how he gets on with it etc! So it would be best to feed raw at 8am and 1pm and then his usual dry food at 6pm?

Re: Raw feeding.
Just gave Bailey his chicken wing and from the looks of it he loved it! The only thing is, he tried to swallow it whole then I held it and he was chewing it but he got rather close to my fingers haha then he just swallowed the rest, is there any way to get him to chew??

Re: Raw feeding.
billy has raw, and he will crunch on his chicken wing to get the bone smaller but once he has crunched enough, down it goes in one

Re: Raw feeding.
I put it in his bowl and he tried to swallow it whole straight away then I got it out his mouth and held it but he swallowed the last inch or 2 whole, will this do any harm??

Re: Raw feeding.
no his acids in his stomach will break it down, but being his first bone, he may poop in out in one until he is used to it

Re: Raw feeding.
Aslong as it doesn't do any harm then it's cool lol, is there any way of making him chew? Could I freeze the wings and give them frozen?

Re: Raw feeding.
yes you could try that although make sure it dosent stick to his tongue, let it thaw slightly. Lamb ribs are good and so is a chicken carcass, they are too big to get down in one

Re: Raw feeding.
Think I'll stick a few in the freezer then haha I'll get some lamb ribs and stuff soon when I know he is taking to it, was going to get a whole chicken but I was in Morrisons and seen a pack of 8 wings for £1.75 so would rather have wasted £1.75 than a fiver if he didn't like it lol

Re: Raw feeding.
if you are buying food from the supermarket it can work out very expensive also make sure that you always freeze them first to get rid of any germs

Re: Raw feeding.
Billy just has, neck (various chicken, turket and lamb), wings & ribs, if you get a marrow bone be careful cause the marrow is very rich and can sometimes make them sick. he also has chicken, beef, fish heart and occasionally tripe and liver. Billy doesnt like mince, there are special minces you can get that have ground bone in them.
Caryll hopefully will be long soon with more ideas as she has been doing it for years.
