So nearly had an accident....
Harrison that is not me. Earlier this evening Ian had gone to bed for an hour to nap before a night shift so I was downstairs with two bickering children.
As Hollie is older than Harrison I left her in the living room watching cbeebies and took Harrison into the kitchen to start on the tea. He was ok in there, just sat talking to Tinkerbell. Anyway I put peas in a saucepan and added boiling water ready to put on the stove once the potatoes had cooked. Left the saucepan on the top (I thought out of Harrison's reach) and took him into the bathroom to change his nappy.
He was in the bathroom with me one minute, but when I chucked his nappy out in the bin, I took my eyes of him for a second. Didn't even step outside because there was a bin bag next to the door, shut the back door and turned round to go and wash my hands and saw Harrison standing with the saucepan. I went to take it off him and he tried to put it back but tipped it.
He immediately screamed, his jumper was wet through to his t-shirt and vest and he was crying saying he had hurt himself. I feel so bad, luckily the frozen peas had cooled the water so he didn't burn himself. I stripped him and put a cool flannel on his shoulder, then checked the temp of the water. It was warm but not boiling....it so could have been another story though.
He is just so busy, I literally can't take my eyes off him for a second. And that's why I never ever have the children in the kitchen with me when I am cooking! Just really glad it didn't end up worse, my friends little girl pulled a kettle over herself and ended up in hospital for weeks having skin grafts!

Oh love what a shock. I don't have kids but can imagine you have to eyes in the back of your head. Thank god it wasn't more serious.

You do indeed and Harrison seems to need eyes all over to watch over him. He is so damn busy. I think he was shocked too so really hoping it has taught him a lesson!

Re: So nearly had an accident....
You really have to have eyes in the back of your head. My son was playing with a plastic ball one winter (he was about 2 years old) & I turned my back on him for a second or two. Next thing I knew he was screaming! I turned round in a panic & saw his ball wedged between the bars of our gas fire, and his poor little hands covered in hot melted plastic!
I did all the right things in a sort of auto-pilot haze and he was left with a small scar on one finger, but it could have been so much worse!

You really do don't you. Harrison is 2 and is much busier than Hollie has ever been. Must be a boy thing!
Oh no Caryll, well done you for thinking so quickly. That really could have been bad! I am so glad we don't have fire, when Harrison was younger he used to squeeze through the gap between the fire guard and the wall, and sit on the hearth. Wasn't much we could do about it, because of the way the hearth stuck out we couldn't cover that last bit. So glas we moved out of that house before an accident happened!

Re: So nearly had an accident....
Glad Harrison is ok. Kids are so fast and can somehow manage to reach things you think are well out of the way. Karla has given me so many frights with things that are hot or sharp. My niece had to have skin grafts on her hand because she managed to reach straighteners on a worktop in the kitchen, they were unplugged but still hot. My sister put herself through hell over that. It really does just take seconds.
