Stubborn Staff!
Hi, I'm new to this but really hope someone out there can help me. I rescued Kayla a 2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier 6 months ago. She is a great dog in every way except for the fact I can't house train her. She is a smart dog and just last night learned roll over in an hour! I have tried everything..I work and she is at home all day on her own..not a problem as she doesn't wee or poop and seems to enjoy lying on her cushion. However it's night time when we are in bed that she does this. I have tried crate training, giving her a nice bone to entice her in but being a staffie she has bitten the bars and manages to get out. She has long walks every day and goes toilet while on walks..can anybodt help me please as I am sick of getting up to poop every morning.

Re: Stubborn Staff!
What time are you feeding her last? Are you taking her out for a walk before going to bed?

Re: Stubborn Staff!
She gets walked between 7 and 8 and I always feed her early about 5.30 so she has time to go poop after..she always get to go out right before bed too..

Re: Stubborn Staff!
Have you tried moving her feeding time to morning ?
When I was toilet training Meg I often used to wake to a crate with poop in it,this continued until she was 12 months old.
I switched her to one meal a day fed at morning,no more poop in her crate

Re: Stubborn Staff!
Thanks for reply..I don't think I can change her feeding time as she is in the house for the day..would probably come home to poop after work. I have spoken to a Dog Trainer who seems to think it is just pure boldeness and she wants to be upstairs with us..hence the bad behaviour at night only..I don't know what to do..she is determined to get out of the crate to do it!

Re: Stubborn Staff!
Hi & welcome to the forum!
What do you feed her? If it's commercial dog food it can take around 12 - 17 hours to digest, so if you're feeding at about 5.30pm she may need to go to the toilet at about 5am!
I'd try to move her walk back from 7pm to about 10pm, and see if that helps. Also, try leaving a radio on quietly in case she's anxious about being on her own. It can take a rescue dog anything up to a year to settle fully into a new home, and she might be looking for reassurance - attention seeking if you like.
Have you thought about putting her bed outside your bedroom door so that she knows where you are?

Re: Stubborn Staff!
we had all sorts of problems with ruby as she was about 9 months old
and very malnourished when we rescued her so she needed small
meals often took us almos a year to get her toilet trained as she was
left outside as baby so had no concept of living indoors so would poop
where ever and whenever she wanted but we persevered and she
finally grasped the idea. everytime she moved we took her out saying wee wee sometimes she got it right other times she didnt but now she moves we ask wee wee if she needs to go her tail wags .
