My New Staffy Puppy :)
Hi all, I have had my staffy puppy for a week now, he's called Kade, and he was only 5 weeks old when I got him. I know that this was far too young to take him away from his mother but his mother could no longer feel any of the pups as she developed a calcium deficiency which then escalated to her needing surgery and her then loosing two of her breasts
He's a beautiful puppy with an appetite for scratching my arm with his very sharp teeth.
He's in a crate and I'm toilet training him on pads for now, which he will usually go on all the time except when i'm playing with him. He sometimes runs off around the front room and has a wee wherever it suits him.
I was wondering how you move it to the next step of getting him to go into the garden for the toilet?
Also, this morning when I came downstairs, I found some blood in some jelly like substances. I'm really worried about it, any ideas what it is?
If it persists, I'm taking him straight to the vets tomorrow.

Re: My New Staffy Puppy :)
Re the training pads, it's just a cs=ase of slowly moving them closer to the door you want hiim to go out of to do his business. I normally don't like puppy pads as it teaches themto go inside but seeing as he is so young, it might be better for him.
As for the blood, I'd get himchecked out straight away. I'm not sure if anyone else here has experience with this, but 'd take him to the vet if he were mine.
Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Re: My New Staffy Puppy :)
I was told that it could be worms, or it could just be due to him over-feeding. But I need to take him to the vets anyway just for a check-up and see about getting vaccinations.

Re: My New Staffy Puppy :)
i wouldnot take him out in the backyard till he had all of his jabs there are alot of things pupys can pick up, you get rats & foxs and cats in your backyard
Re: My New Staffy Puppy :)
it will almost certainly will have worms as most pups are born with them it just when they have areally bad case it can become serious

Re: My New Staffy Puppy :)
after his first jab the vet may tell you can let him in the back garden as 12 weeks keeping him in can really slow down your toilet training

my pup was 8 weeks when we had him he had worms when he went for his 1st injection his belly was a little bulgy hes ok now. The vet told me he could go out in the garden we have foxes/squirrels so I was a bit worried but they said it was ok and he is fine he had his 2nd injection last week and worming.. we can take him on his 1st walk two weeks later

I'd get him to the vet. If it's worms (and you don't normally see blood like that with worms) then he needs a good puppy wormer straight away, if it isn't, then the vet needs to know.
Re: toilet training, I'd let him in the garden every hour plus straight after a meal, long drink of water, sleep or play. All these things trigger his need to relieve himself. I'm not keen on pads, but as you're using them start moving it nearer the door a bit at a time. Eventually it can go just outside.

Johnny take him to the vets blood in his mess is not good, Samson had it for months changed his food and it stopped turns out he has a sensitive stomach, but also on a young dog it can be harmless soft tissue, but worth getting it checked

Re: My New Staffy Puppy :)
Hey guys and girls
I found out that my poor little guy had worms, so dewormed him, the buisness happened and he's back to his normal self of nibbling haha .
I was so worried it was something more serious. Thanks for the help and I'll try and get some pictures of Kade up soon so you can all see him.

Hey guys and girls, thanks for the advice and everything. just to let you know, Kade is growing up into a fine staffy. his nipping is getting much better and he learnt how to sit in under 5 minutes. I never knew how good it could feel to teach a dog commands
