jazz's dad...irish staff?
I'll start from the top and sorry if i ramble abit! When i lived at home with my mum we had a staff called vinnie which we used to show so he was kc reg etc...And when i settled down in my own place i wanted a staff of my own but was'nt bothered with getting a kc reg dog as i'm not interested in showing dogs anymore so i went on epupz and found jazz, she is dog lovers club registered, and along with that i got a 5 gen pedigree paper for her which was good atleast i've got some sort of paperwork for her.
When i visited the breeder she mentioned that jazz's dad was an irish staff which i payed no attention to bcos i just thought he was a dog from ireland doh!! Upon reading an article today on the net i read that dogs labelled "irish staffs"could in fact be cross bread with pitbulls? Can anyone shed some light on this for me.
Here's a pic of her dad...
I think i'm being a bit paranoid but just shocked me when i read various things on the net

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
Normaly irish are just crossbreeds to have looks of a pitbull. so they class a type..
But if you bring jazz up the right way, dont go around saying you have pit you should be fine

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
Well, he's certainly not a full staff, looking at the pic.
But I wouldn't worry about that. Asteve says, if you bring your pup up properly & don't go round saying she's an Irish Staff or a Pit cross etc, you'll be fine.
If she's well behaved & friendly nobody will bother about it!

Just to add that not all Irish Staffs are Pit-bull crosses or bred to look like one. Some of them are bred to the original standard.
Like Gentleman Jim the first ever champion staffy(who the standard was written on).
Hope this is of some help.

Steve wrote:? there still no breed called irish staffy
Yes I know that lol.Just some people breed to old standards and call them Irish staffs.
Some people would class it as a breed type.

I know of dogs with KC papers bigger than the standard at the withers.Height and a term don't mean that a dog is not of breed.

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
There is a standard set out by the kennel club for a Staffordshire bull terrier they will allow an 1" either way but if your too far out the size recommendations it cannot be classed as a true Stafford so will be classed as type

What would happen If you have a litter of kc pups who a few grow out of standard?Do there papers become null and void?

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
No they don't as there is no way to regulate the dogs once they leave the breeder and grow up, all it means is someone would buy a pedigree Staff in good faith but neither them or the breeder knows how it will grow. A responsible breeder would not use the oversized or undersized dog for breeding, but they do and that's why there are many different sizes about

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
Because there KC registered doesn't mean they meet breed standard, for example you wouldn't be able to show them.
it doesn't mean there not nice dogs just they no longer meet breed standard once they've matured. It's a crazy system to register a pup that the Kennel club don't see and it remains registered after no maintaining the standard i don't know the answer to the problem

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
Poor breeding simple as that !!!!!! And yes people breed purposly out of standard to breed taller , heavier those would be classed as type no matter kc registered or not.

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
I think nowadays people fool about too much with breeds to get a certain look ie "irish staffs" crossbreed pitbull looking dogs which unfortunately is what jazz comes under i think. She's 7.5 months and already 16.5 inch to the withers and 30lb in weight...gonna be a big girl i think! But we love her all the same and would'nt change her for the world.

Re: jazz's dad...irish staff?
The dad does look like a pit or pit cross going by skull structure and body shape.

The Pit Bull (defined as the American Pit Bull Terrier) is not recognized by the AKC, but by the UKC and ADBA. The breed recognized by the AKC is called the American Staffordshire Terrier and the dog in your photograph looks nothing like an AmStaff. Where did you get the photo?Nosipho wrote:Below is a AKC registered pitbull

You know what your right! I googled it lol, maybe they did say UKC. It was an advert for a stud dog I saw. And no that dog does not look much like an American Staff but they did say it was an american pitbull.
I was just saying the type of dog that people label as the 'pitbull terrier' may be similar in height but is very different in stature and skull shape than the 1950s - 1970s version of the staffordshire bull terrier (ie how they looked then!).
