Crated Training any ideas ???
Hi
Since my pup mika was born she has been in a crate still is now and she is 7 months old what is the recommended age to have them out of the crate and into a new bed i mean she sleeps the odd time in our room but its just trying to break the comfort habbit of her and the crate any suggestions she is house trained i mean we leave her till 9 am till 12 come home on a lunch hour and she has kept her crate clean goes out side does her business but is this only because she does not want to ruin her bed or is she actually house trained some suggestions would be great ..

My bitch is 6 and sill has a crate - if they are happy with a crate, keep that as their bed.

Re: Crated Training any ideas ???
its seems to me that mika is doing fine, my motto is ifs its not broke dont fix it, dogs will not go to the toilet in their bed or where they eat if they can help it, mika seems fine. what does she do when shes not in the crate and wants to go to the toilet when shes home with you.mika03 wrote:Hi

Re: Crated Training any ideas ???
she is in the sitting room with us and crys at the door to go out to the kitchen then sits by the back door and crys so she does let us know i just am worried if we do take crate away as its in the kitchen and basically in the way most of the time that this may break her routine if she keeps it in while we are at work during the day she will wonder around and then think its ok to do it in the kitchen if you get me

Can you leave the crate out whilst your at work and then when your home put it away? That way you can tell what Mikas behaviour is like and get him used to the house. They can be a pain, (crates I mean) I did try crates but never had the room. Maybe just almost wean Mika out of it if you really do want to stop using it.

Re: Crated Training any ideas ???
yeah i do, i know what your saying, first of all she is house trained if shes goes to the door when she wants to go to the toilet, i would leave her out of the crate or leave the crate door open and see how she gets on while your in work. shes at that age now that she will be able to control her movements, i reckon she will be fine when a dog is house trained they will never go in the house unless its un controllable

chewing is a different story all dogs need to chew make sure if she left to wander around you kitchen, make sure you have plenty of toys for her to chew, this will save the legs on your table and chairsmika03 wrote:we have put a bed out of the crate when we are home and she will lie on it im just scared of disturbing this comfort zone when we are wokring and chewing my kitchen to pieces lol has to be done at some point i suppose.

why the worry of the crate when your in, if mika happy just carry on the way your going, there is no need to stop using the crate it is her safe place, and if your worried about chewing it the only sure fire way of stoping, it when your in leave the door open so she can come and go when she pleases, and close it when your out
