Is a English staffy male compatible with a poodle

Hi All
Im sure this topic has been covered, but im new on here and just wanted to hear from anyone that has introduced different breeds into family home.
We have a Blue english staffy (Busta) his 1 years old now, he is a gentle very playful energetic boy runs around with the oids all day, he has been socialised as a pup is quiet friendly with other dogs when we go on walks, he is a big sook, when other dogs barks at him he just whimpers. The wife now wants a toy poodle, cavoodle or a small non energetic dog to introduce to Busta so he has a companion. We are not sure if its a good idea. We dont want them mating but have read introducing another male is a no go? Please share your thoughts and experiences

My initial thoughts, after your description of Busta, is that it should be easier to introduce him to another dog as he doesn’t sound dominant.
Are you looking to acquire another puppy or a rescue dog ?
A big advantage of a rescue (amongst others) is that you can introduce and check they get on before coming home. You also have the possibility of taking rescue back if it really doesn’t work out.

Alot depends on character but I don’t believe it should be more of a problem to have another male. I have 2 females and many say that’s not ideal so it’s really a case of trial and hopefully no error.
As to type and size, I think you’ll find that smaller dogs aren’t necessarily as fragile as we think and they generally know how to make themselves understood so that wouldn’t be my first worry (unless you were looking for a miniature pocket-sized fashion accessory of a dwarf chihuahua ...)

The house dynamics are very different when you add a second dog. I too brought a second home to keep the first company. I did hesitate and do alot of homework before the acquisition of Opium but in hindsight, I’m glad I did.

Please do tell us a little more about Busta, and maybe a photo too ?

Thanks for the advice all. His very well behaved had some good training listens to commands sit drop heel. His excellent with the kids loves running a muck with them. His the biggest baby out of the lot of them. Kids absolutely loves him. My son lies on him like pillow and watch telly together. Thats why we want a companion for him cause when they go to school his absolutely gutted he looks so sad when they leave.
