Differences between "American" Staffy BT and "English" Staffy BT? Empty Differences between "American" Staffy BT and "English" Staffy BT?

Post by gregory Sat Aug 04 2012, 21:55

Can any of you talk a bit about the differences (if any?) in temperament, care requirements etc between the "English" staffy and the "American" staffy? We can see that the ASBT is bigger, at least leggier, and on Wikipedia its mentioned that the head is slightly less broad/deep (although in the ASBT's weve seen out and about, the head seems exactley the same as a SBT). We have noticed the ugly habit here for cropping many ASBT ears...which we assume is done just for looks, rather than for health reasons..? In East London, our former home, Staffs were all too easy to acquire, however here in Rio de Janeiro they are a rare breed, with just a handfull of breeders in the whole state (hardfacekennel.com.br & staffgreen.com look the best), and weve been waiting a long time already and no pups are coming available...so now we are considering the more available "American" Staffy (AMStaffs, as theyre reffered to here0. Weve met a few ASBT's out and about and they seem just as curious and lovable as the SBT, definitley bigger though! We now have more room at home and access to forest and beaches, so a larger Staff presents no issues. In the Uk we fell in love with the breed, its nature, total reliability and beautiful looks...so we want to know wether the ASBT retains the reliable and affectionate nature of her English "cousins"? Be very grateful for your knowledge.

Hi & welcome.

They're actually two quite different breeds, as you can see from the above photo & link, although their temperament is very similar.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. They are two different breeds but the tempermants are very similar. Suki is an AmStaff and is wonderfull and friendly dog. If there are no concerns with size or legal issues they are wonderfull pets.

I know more put bulls and AmStaffs (if you believe they're distinct) than SBTs. The ones I've met are a lot like Callie. Friendly, high energy, licky, maybe a little stubborn, good dogs.
