Phantom pregnancy? Empty Phantom pregnancy?

Has anybody experienced phantom pregnancy or mastitis ?
I've been to the vet yesterday and peppa has enlarged and warm teats as said before but she does not suffer pain fever or behavioural changes. Yesterday was the 28th day Of her first season And she still attracts male dogs could  it be that she is steel in the last stage of season? Shes Getting inflammatory  pain Killer at the moment.

Yes, Biscuit suffered from both. Why are you allowing her to be around male dogs?

We were on the street on the way back from vet I'm not allowing Anything just registered the male was interested. They were both on lead obviously and surely she can't get pregnant while having a phantom

I noticed in your last post though that she was off lead stealing other balls tennis balls and jumping up/snapping at the woman head height trying to get the ball back?

It's not about the pregnancy, more that she is clearly very uncomfortable and will be feeling extremely vulnerable at the moment and should be away from other animals and sticking to quiet, calm walks. She is likely to be snappy/grumpy/irrational at the moment as her hormones will be all over the place, it's not her fault and she shouldn't be told off for it, the behaviour needs to be managed by avoiding putting her under pressure at present. And she should not be off lead around other dogs at ANY point in her season.

She was at the park yesterday and was completely her normal playful self no signs of sterss that's why I'm so confused! I thought that the other days behaviour was caused by over exicetement . I'm really trying to do the best for her
But can't do it if I don't know whats the problem or even if there is one the vet didn't seem sure either said we need to review it in few days or it might settle itself by then. But she's never unsupervised .

Okay, understand you're trying to keep her safe, it's just quite a risky situation to put her in. Has your vet not offered any treatment? I used galastop with Bug when she was having a phantom, but it can terminate a pregnancy, so you need to be 100% that it is a phantom and not actual pregnancy. When having a phantom Biscuit was territorial, irrational and possessive but also seeking lots of reassurance from me. Is this her first season?

sash used to have a lot of phantom pregnancies, normally started 6-8 weeks after her season, she would take one of her toys and treat it as it was pup, carrying it around with her and even putting it near her teats as if she was feeding it  Sad ,she would even produce milk too.

what were the signs with bis? How long did it last? Did you have to
Medically intervene?
Stella haven't sash behaved pregnant? Why didn't you spay them? My vet wants me to spay peppa once this is over saying shell have phantoms after every season. Poor baby but I noticed her teats are a bit smaller and less stiff hopefully it's a good sign.

Post by Rachel33 Sat Aug 23 2014, 13:20

When she came into kennels she had recently had puppies and had awful mastitis.. Teats were already enlarged due to having pups recently, but she was leaking milk and fluid, and the whole abdomen was puffy, tender and swollen. After 6 months in kennels she came into season (they don't spay in kennels unless they're definitely going to be adopted, and Biscuit wasn't a likely candidate. A few weeks after her season finished she got very grumpy and similarly to Sash, was carrying 3 little toys around and guarding them as her pups in her bed. Her behaviour was hectic, but she had been living in kennels for 6 months so was hard to determine what was kennel behaviour and what was phantom behaviour. The vets put her on galastop and she improved within a week. I adopted her a few months later so she was then spayed and we haven't had any problems since. Though her teats are large permanently from all of the breeding, as it her vulva. She also has lumps in her mammary glands but vets don't think they're cancerous luckily.

Yes it's her 1st.  Season . Horrible what bis had gone through . The vet put her on loxicom and if it won't help in few days shell put her on antibiotics. She never left my eye sight except few walkies with her dad
So can't be pregnant

Hm, the anti inflammatories may help with the symptoms but not the cause of them. May be a case of treating the symptoms and waiting it out, up to your vet really. As long as she's definitely not pregnant, you've got lots more options for treatment. Galastop will treat the false pregnancy and regulate the hormones x
