Is she a cross?

Hi all.  We had Kiara from a rescue in October, she is 4 years old and 22kg.  She is a really loving lap dog and will do anything to please, she hates water! Lol. She was overweight when we took her on however we have got her pretty trim now.  The rescue said she is an sbt and we never thought otherwise however, a couple of people have asked if she is a cross and someone even asked if she is a pit! This obviously concerned us as we would hate for a lovely girl to be taken away.  I know at 22kg she is out of breed standards for sbt's but so is my aunties and he is a pedigree with paperwork.  Have a look at the pics and see what you think.  Sorry for the essay.

looks like a staffy to me and she is gorgeous. to be honest apart from the colouring she looks like my tessa she is also big for a bitch.and i personaly have never really liked the look of the show standard dogs,too small and with awful short blunt snouts. i do know quite a lot about staffy history and heritage and she looks pretty much like the original fighing dog.

I think she looks staffy too. She has a lovely black nose and dark eyes. I definitely don't think Pitbull.

I love that beautiful tan colour too

there only one type of staffy

are you talking about bull & terrier which wasn't an staffy, staffy came from the bull and terrier like tyhe pitbull, bull terrier, boston terrier and so on

i dont know where you read that the staffy was the original fighing dog becasue that very wrong

by the look of her face she could be class an type that doesn't mean she is an pitbull it mean an dog that is similar to an pit but if you rescue her you dont have an problem becasue rescuse center dont rehome pitbull type dogs

I can't comment on "types" and looks, but she is gorgeous

Sorry i don't know what she could be crossed with, however this looks like a very familiar view to me being the owner of another Staffy cross   

Yes she looks like a cross, very sweet though - as long as she is well behaved don't worry about having her taken away - she is a similar shape to my Moo who weighed 22.4 I think last time

Hard to say if there is cross in there... I'm guessing there probably is but she is showing all the classic moves of a Staff so as far as anyone is concerned, she's as much a Staff as my Flo is    and gorgeous to boot.

I couldn't say if she was a cross, staffies are being bred all different shapes and sizes nowadays! Not a pit bull though x

She has all the staffy things going on the lay Down frog legs at the back lol the rub my tummy and the lie down in the kitchen to get a treat     And the resting the head on the legs then sleep , bless she is lovely

She looks like I could pick her right up off the computer screen and give her a cuddle.

The only thing that flashed through my mind was "Labrador" (side pic).

But she's pretty Staffy-looking.

Thank you all for your kind words! She is much loved and very spoilt! I can't get over how clever she is either, each time a try something new with her she normally picks it up after the first try! I just started to let her sniff one of my gloves and then hiding it and telling her to go and find it. She runs, finds it and brings it back to me. She never ceases to amaze us each day

They really are wonderful dogs enjoy her! And try not to worry about what others say, everyone's a breed expert these days! We get it all the time and Biscuit has been tested by the DLO and deemed not to be an illegal breed, someone else will always know best!

She looks very much like Suki who is an AmStaff but Kiara is 5kg lighter so hard to say for sure.

Let me get this straight - you have a totally adorable cuddle monster, who you've probably saved from the jaws of death (rescue), who is now losing weight and getting trim and fit, who fits into your family perfectly and seems (photo) to even love your cat.

Now it turns out she is a genius too!

I am v interested in how underused Staffies are as semi-working dogs. They make very good therapy dogs as they are so affectionate.

Well whatever she is crossed with she is beautiful   I would say mostly staffy, perhaps a little bit of lab in there?

Cheers for the kind words, she is sat next to me as I type. Very interesting article! It does seem that they are underused and definitely mislabelled and misunderstood.
