Male or Female??? Empty Male or Female???

Post by lool8104 Sun Apr 28 2013, 21:15

Hi could somebody please give some advice or personal experience of male/female temperments please?? I grew up with both, bitch tended to have 'mood swings' male was more placid, but I am currently looking for a pup for my family, and have 3 small children. Just wanted to make sure that there is no general rule as to which sex is easier/gentler/more laid back??? Many Thanks x

Hello and welcome Big Grin

I must admit I prefer girlies !! But there all different, don't think you can predict what they're going to be like just by gender.

It's hard I say really. The most important thing with getting a puppy is to get a well bred, health tested and proven goo temperament from both parents.

Well i have both, Diesel (my bitch) is crazy maď hyper an Leroy my boy is so laidback u'd think he was stuffed sometimes! But i think thats more to do with how theyr brought up. I had Diesel since a pup an played with her all the time, so i sumtime i think im to blame for her extreme playfulness an Leroy is a rescue an from the way he acts id say he never really got much attention before....
i read somewhere they tend to adapt to ur household...so if u have a energetic house they'l be energetic an if its a laidback house they'l tend to b happy loungin about...but dunno if thats true?

I think it depends mostly on the individual dog as opposed to gender. I've had all males except for one female, no difference whatsoever, so go for any Big Grin

Skye is very happy go lucky and will pin you down for kisses but we've had her since she was 12 weeks old and has had loveand attention lavished apon her
Buster is stand off ish he will have fuss but is not as intense but we rescued him at aprox 6 months and he had had no proper contact before then
I have had both male and female gsds and the female was more gentle and behaved well were as the male was more independent and we had both from pups but I think that was just how they were
All in all it realy depends on what you put into the dog whatever the breed and gender and like us all we are all individuals

I have one of each as well and Ive only ever had males before that.
things I've noticed between the two.
As marley grew up he became more needy to please, simple things like getting him to jump benches and walk up fallen trees etc seem to fulfill him and is very task driven while laska is more goofy and playfull.
she doesnt see bad in anything and also doent feel the need to please as much as marley and is very soppy and loving but will be the first to snap in a confrontation over a treat or toy while marley will often let her just take it for a quiet life. she is def maturing slower than marley did also and is still acting very puppyish at a year old whereas marley was very much grown up at her age.

I prefer males, but it's more just a personal preference.
Temperament wise they both have pluses although femalse can be a little 'sharper' than males at times!

Male's are quite placid but can act the dope alot of the time. And im saying this only relating to dogs okay Laughing  ... the females seem more focused and aware of the consequences of their actions than males. I really couldn't recommend either though as they both have very strong points and are perfectly suited to kids. It comes down to what you would prefer in a dog really.

And in contrast , males are nutters and girls are angels Smile

It really is sown to the individual and their character , though with correct training 1 may be more lively than the other you are sure to have the most fantastic animal that ever entered your life

Hi &welcome to the forum from me and Gwen! I personally prefer girlies! I have always had females! I had a male boxer and he was wonderful too! I think it depends on the personality of the dog more than if it's male or female!
