He is fit and well,But sometimes his back legs give way.Out stretched he lays a good 10 seconds,then limps.It seems to be happening more often.Is this a common in the breed

Hi and welcome to the forum. It's hard to tell without a video or more information about age and history. Have you asked a vet for advice yet? A video is also a good idea so you can show it to the vet.

At 8 years old he could be showing the first signs of rheumatism. Ask your vet to have a look & recommend some supplements you could give him for his joints. Something with glucausamine (sp?) in it would probably work.
