Hi

We have had a couple of moments with Vlad over the last couple of days where he is literally uncontrollable. He is getting loads of exercise, he has lots of toys, gets lots of love and attention and he still goes crazy! He jumps and bites and snaps and barks and seems to forget everything he has learnt. I know he's only 12 weeks old and he's still a puppy, but a couple of times he has seemed(?) a little aggressive. We turn our backs on him, put him in a "time out", ignore him and to no avail. After about an hour or so he settles down and goes back to his gorgeous self. I tried running him around the back yard to get rid of the excess energy and this did nothing... he was just as active when we brought him back in. It does seem like he is over tired. He looks ready to sleep, then he gets a second wind and goes nuts! Our vet advised us not to walk him for another couple of weeks until the vaccination is well and truly effective... but will the walking help? Puppy school behind for him in 3 weeks and we also plan on taking him to obedience. If anyone has any suggestions I will willingly try anything that will help him.

I think he wil grow out of it to be honest when you can start walking him properly, they have so much energy! But keep doing what your doing as they need the training installed and reinstalled over and over but it will click one day.

Maybe you could try mind games with Vlad, hid treats and get him to search them out. Good luck for the next 2 weeks, its a real pain when they can't get proper exersize Smile

He is still very young.....they certainly have a lot of energy at his age....and not being able to take him out for walks makes it even harder. Once he has had all relevant needles/vaccinations and you are able to take him out and about, you should see an improvement.

Puppy school is a great outing, where they can socialise with others and you learn the basics of training too. Training at home is a great way to help tire them out too at his age, but limit training sessions to about 10 / 15 mins each. Basic commands such as sit, drop/down, stay, come etc.........
Lots of praise for good behaviour ....and ignore the bad behaviours.

Nipping, jumping, biting etc.... is a very common problem amongst pups ( my girl was a Shocker for nipping and biting, and at times I thought she would NEVER improve, but guess what....she did improve ) Consistence is essential in training so they learn what is expected of them.

Good luck Wink

Walking will help alot IMHO. They have loads of energy and have to get it out someway. The school and socialization are great as well. We all have times where they are difficult to handle but patience and consistancy will pay off in the end.

THANK YOU! I feel like this a lot. This morning was a bit overcast and showering. We have a massive undercover area and Vlad has a really nice kennel that we have made warm and he usually loves to sleep in during the day or hoard his toys he had a lovely bed in there too, but he thought it was tasty and we found it all over the back yard!). I am on 3 weeks leave (one down 2 to go) and am trying to eliminate any separation anxiety. I am attempting to get him in a routine where when I leave for work, I take him out his Kong and a chew and come back in and close the blinds. After a couple of hours I go out, have a play, or if he isn't interested, he comes in for a sleep on his bed. This morning this didn't happen... he barked and cried and barked and cried, and I know our neighbours will hate us (I will take some home baked goodies over to them later and apologise!), I tried to keep him there, but just couldn't. He came inside, went to his bed and promptly slept! He wanted to go out about an hour later and he has been playing outside ever since! Now... to cut a long story short... could it have been the weather? Was the rain scaring him? It's meant to storm here tomorrow, is there anything I can do so he knows he's safe and he has a safe area outside? Sorry, I am so neurotic, I am such a nervous first time parent!

The weather can make them act odd. I think exercise is the key and you seem to be on the right track. He's still very young and storms are probally new to him. He should get used to them in time though. Suki was an absolute terror the first few times there was thunder and lightning. Good you can be there with him for awhile and I'm sure he will settle into the routine. We all do still worry though but it will work out in the end.
