Dehydrated treats good enough?
Hi Guy's,
I've been feeding The Dude raw in the morning, and he is really enjoying and looking good on it. He especially loves his wings, which he trots off proudly with his tail in the air to chow in his crate. He has a variety of cuts and meats, but will only eat offal like liver and kidney if it is nuked or pan fried first, thus loosing some of the nutrients in the process. I use a dehydrator sometimes to make jerky or dried fruits, and thought it may be a good idea to try drying out liver and kidney etc to possibly make it more appetising and also using them as training treats if he enjoys them. Just wondering if anyone has tried drying meats or similar and if the dried meats would supplement his dietary needs? He only has raw in the morning, for his evening meal I put his name in the pot and he will have what we eat if it is appropriate. Thanks.

Re: Dehydrated treats good enough?
dried liver treats are good for dogs, they must be better than some of the ones you can buy, and if you are making them yourself then they have got to be very good, no additives etc.
where did you get your dehydrator from, i have had a look around and they are very expensive, as i was going to use it to dry fruit for us at home ages ago

I buy most things from Fleabay. It was a used higher end model with 6 large trays so a bigger surface area. Buying a good quality used one works out about the same as a lower end new one. They are good for making jerky, as store bought is expensive.

I think it sounds like a great idea!
I don't feed mine table scraps cause we have salt with things like vegetables etc which I don't want him to have.

Have you tried giving him his offal frozen, as Harvey will only eat his that way?

Ooh good idea Ella I never thought to freeze offal before giving it. Skibadee loves it, we call her 'Swingbin' bus she will literally eat anything. But Tali gets increasingley upset if you try to give her liver or kidneys or heart! Shes a big baby so we have to boil it for her!

Freeze dried treats are supposed to be really great. Just watch out for liver, because it's really rich and too much can upset a dog's stomach.
