Which treats and how much
Hi Guys, I am new to this forum and have not been able to put up our girls pictures yet. Will try later. Our latest addition to the family is nearly ten weeks old and when she goes to toilet outside we praise her but would like to also reward her as she is a little piggy and likes her food, as do all puppies. What treats should we give her and how much, lots I have looked at are for three months and over. I know it is only two weeks but I think the more she is rewarded the better chance of training her we have.

Re: Which treats and how much
Hi and welcome!
I often use kibble or bits of fruit or veg (no grapes, raisins or onion though!) as low value treats then things like dried liver, bits of cooked chicken, small bits of cheese or sausage etc. as high value treats.
I don't buy the usual suspects you usually find in the supermarkets that are full of grain and other rubbish.
If it's not your regular kibble then getting a small bag of something like Orijen or Applaws to use as treats often works well. Ziwipeak is good for that too as it's basically dried raw.

Re: Which treats and how much
In some pet stores you can pick up a trial packet of dry kibble FOC, if you can find somewhere that stocks what you use this would be ideal.

Re: Which treats and how much
As others have said, fruit veg and kibbles as an everyday 'low value' treat just to say well done. Then we use bits of sausage, dried liver or other meats (chicken, sliced ham) as a 'high value' treat to really get them interested or as a reward for excellent behaviour! Also sometimes use coachies to train with, they are completely natural and can be quickly chewed and sawllowed meaning no slowing down during heelwork etc.

Re: Which treats and how much
Hi Guys, thanks for the replies, I meant how much in quantity not price. Do not want her to get fat although I believe she will burn loads while running around.

Re: Which treats and how much
Sorry, missed that bit.
When using kibble, I'll take it out of their daily ration. With pups (and adult dogs for that matter), you can use at least one meal time as a training session, so instead of feeding out of a bowl, feed it bit by bit as rewards.
With high value treats, just start small. You'll see over time whether you're feeding too much/too little and need to adjust.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Veggies are low calorie so you can use them often.

Thanks all, will add some apples and carrots to my shopping for them both. Should be fun for Ellie as she has not had these before but think that Dusty is making har a little more adventurous in her old age.
