Re: Which shampoo do you use
I use John Paul Oatmeal Shampoo and a seperate spray on coat conditioner afterwards (same make). They're expensive - the one I bought was £10 - but it's lasted me for nearly 2 years! You just put a small amount in a jug of warm water, mix it round gently & pour over the wet dog - rub it in & rinse!
I love it, it smells really nice & it's kind to his skin.

I still have the shampoo I got when I rescued her and I haven't a clue what it is as its diluted in a fairy liquid bottle obviously she doesn't get bathed much xXx

Re: Which shampoo do you use
The only problem using a 'human' shampoo is that the skin's ph is different, and you could cause a skin sensitivity.
If your dogs are fine with it, then don't worry, but if they get a sensitive skin then that could be the cause.

it doesn't seem to harm most dogs, but just be aware that it can & if you see any hypersensitivity, you can switch.
I must admit that Dempsey gets bathed so rarely that it probably wouldn't make any difference if I used it!

Re: Which shampoo do you use
I would never use human shampoo on me let alone my dog it's full of nasty chemicals. I am lucky cause I can make make own things, but no sure if they are ok to use on dogs which is why I wanted a very mild shampoo and I know that anything with oats in is good for the skin and hair. But if it works for you then you are lucky

I use Malaseb , which is a specially formulated shampoo and is great fro dgos with skin problems. RoXy used to itch a lot and this seems to help us.

I'm a hairdresser that uses Paul Mitchell too but I had never used the John Paul range so I emailed them last week and explained that I use paul Mitchell but was not familiar with John Paul so could they send me some samples and they did!! I got loads of samples of different wipes and shampoos and a keyring.Well worth a try if you don't want to spend loads on a bottle only to find it not suitable.Ruby&Me wrote:I'm a hairdresser and I swear by John Paul (aka Paul Mitchell) xxx

Well I haven't used the shampoo yet, going to give that a go in the morning, but I can confirm that the teeth and gum wipes were a sucsess, kobi really liked them, but the ear and eye wipes were not favoured!!! Jade is an easy target because she dosent move fast enough to run away so I can pounce on her but kobi ran a mile when I started cleaning his ears!! Lol

The oatmeal shampoo smells gorgeous,I cant wait to use it,I just hope it has stain removing properties as jade has been rolling in the garden(that's her favourite pastime) and is now a lovely shade of brown Instead of her usual White!! Lol

It's brilliant!
Gets the coat really clean, but doesn't leave it feeling dry. I mix a little in a jug of water & pour it over - it's easier to get all over the coat that way.

Re: Which shampoo do you use
I've just used the jp oatmeal shampoo on my mutts and it smells lush! I was really surprised how well and quick it rinsed out which jade was happy with as she hates the bath!! Usually I'm rinsing for a lot longer but this just seemed to slide out which was fab.

Re: Which shampoo do you use
The OH is a hairdresser also. She brought home the Paul Mitchell dog kit about 6 months ago and that is what we use now. Smells great and the wipes are handy for when they get dirty outside.lynne wrote:Kobiko wrote:I'm a hairdresser that uses Paul Mitchell too but I had never used the John Paul range so I emailed them last week and explained that I use paul Mitchell but was not familiar with John Paul so could they send me some samples and they did!! I use the same as you since getting it from the vets for her skin condition.
Her coat is lovely and her skin isn't dry at all. we still have ongoing issues with her allergys, but I will buy some of this shampoo when I run out of it.

Re: Which shampoo do you use
We have used Rufus and Coco Oatmeal Shampoo. You can get them online and they have a select range in some supermarkets. They sell lots of pet goodies. We also use the grooming spray and the bone dry towel. There is a spray which we use when Vlad wees on the floors (thankfully tiles!) called Wee Away that neutralises the smell to the dog as well as cleaning it and smelling lovely for humans! It removes stains left by animals, can be used on carpets and is 100% natural. Definitely recommend this product alone!

If Vlad looks a bit dirty and dusty or has had an accident inside and stepped in it... I use soap free baby wipes... he loves them!

Re: Which shampoo do you use
We use a medicated shampoo sometimes and also johnsons baby shampoo if its mild enough for babies then why not use it on dogs

Gem you say you Oilatum when their coats are dull and flaky.. In what form do you use i.e... scalp treatment shampoo, cream, adult bath formula, light liquid paraffin, lotion..... I checked out Oilatum but there are different varieties and different forms and i was just wondering what you buy and how you apply it and how often ??
Inca has abit of dry skin near the base of her tail ( just on her back) and sometimes her skin in other place's looks abit dry and was wondering what is best to use...

I just got the shampoo and conditioner off ebay for £20 for both. Blue has his Vitamin E, Omega 3, Garlic tablets and new shampoo now, so hopefully I should see an improvement with his fur
Thanks all for the recommendation

Re: Which shampoo do you use
Hi,
I do not know whether it makes me a bad dog owner but I used to have a German Shepherd for almost 11 years and she had never had a bath... and she was clean as an angel and her skin and fur were perfect.
I've had Stella for almost a year and I have never bathed her either and I do not plan to do it... She looks perfect, shiny, healthy, clean, does not smell at all...actually she smells lovely ...well sometimes I have to rub her with a kitchen towel wet with water if she rolls in something too much but otherwise I think baths are really not necessary. I would go that far that I would say they are bad for dogs but it is obviously up to everybody
Please don't stone me for that

Re: Which shampoo do you use
I only bathe when he's really stinky! Because he's allowed on the sofa I can't let him get too smelly cause he makes the furniture smell, but he only gets one or two baths a year.
His best friend, Pneuma (GSD) is the same age & she has never been bathed - trouble is, her fur is quite oily & when you stroke her your hand comes away black.

Soap Free
I just use any soap free dog shampoo, the soap free ones don't wash off tick, flea and worming spot on if that's what you use as a treatment.

I got some Mucky Pup shampoo from Home Bargains! It cost about £1.50 you can get medicated or flea. Lola has sensitive skin with her being white and she has been ok with it. I also spotted it in the pound shop.

Re: Which shampoo do you use
I mailed them saying......Where's my bloody Shampoo!!!
they sent one back saying ask neighbours, check back garden and mail office. So yeaterday on my dinner break I went the sorting office......no luck, nothing in garden or at neighbours, but suprise suprise when I got home it was on the side. Got delievered 2 days after complaining.
Anyway Blue got a much needed bath last nigh and WOW. His coat feels, looks and smells great. Coat felt amazing and healthier than it did before the bath. His patches seem to be slowly recovering. But his coat has a 200% better shine already in the last 2 weeks
