Milbemax wormer side effects
Hi all
Has anyone else used the milbemax wormer. I gave it to my 15 week puppy yesterday, 2 tablets this time as she is heavier and today she is not good. She is in pain and yelping if we pick her up and is very lethargic - not like her at all. I was wondering if is could be a reaction???

Re: Milbemax wormer side effects
I'm affraid I haven't used it myself. I use drontal.
2 tablets for a 15 week old pup seems a lot?! Mine has 2 and she is 2ish, what has the vet reccomended, as I would be worried myself. I would get her to a vets for a once over.

Re: Milbemax wormer side effects
She's 7.8 kilos so the vet gave us 2 tablets (small ones). I took her to the vets today thinking it was caused by over exercise - then started to wonder if it could be related to the wormer! Looked on the internet and wished I hadn't as there are a lot of different reactions which dog owners have commented on.

Re: Milbemax wormer side effects
the only reaction i have ever had with wormers is vomiting so i know not to use that type again or lower the dose, i have never used milbemax before so cant help you there.
i would take her to your vets with the symptoms she has, to be on the safe side .. poor thing, hope she is ok!

Re: Milbemax wormer side effects
Any medicine can cause side effects.. have used milbemax several times - both on the kitties and on the dogs without issues, since they are so easy to give. We always vary the kind of wormer we use, though (the effective ingredients) so it's been a while now. Talk to your vet and mention it as a possible side effect!

I use milbemax & never had a problem, but all dogs are different. Two tablets does seem a lot, though.

Re: Milbemax wormer side effects
They have a puppy variety where the dose per pill is smaller than the regular ones, so I'm assuming that's why. (1 pill per 5 kg if I remember correctly.)Caryll wrote:I use milbemax & never had a problem, but all dogs are different. Two tablets does seem a lot, though.

Right, I just started with half a tablet when Dempsey was a pup & progressed up to 2 tablets as his weight increased!

Took her back to the vets today and she had blood tests. Her white cell count is high and she has protein in her urine. We have been given a course of antibiotics so fingers crossed this will clear up everything.

Thanks for the update - did the vet think this was related to the wormer? Keep us posted!Big Phil wrote:Took her back to the vets today and she had blood tests.
