Talking?!
Tinkerbell does this weird talking type thing when she wants something, i.e. out the back, to come in the living room (she is in the kitchen whilst the kids eat because my youngest keeps dropping all his food for her lol). I don't know how to explain it, but it is a weird kind of barking/whimpering/cry. We don't mind it at all, but it is the strangest noice I have ever heard. I have worked with animals for years, in various kennels, vets etc and have never come across a dog making this noise before. Is it a staff trait? Really hard to explain it, but wondered if anyone knew what I am on about. She kind of moves her mouth up and down as if she is talking whilst she does it. I will have to catch her on video sometime doing it.

Re: Talking?!
Staffies talk! Lots of people say the same. Mine does a low, husky growling thing when he says hello or when he wants something

Re: Talking?!
My moms staff talks in the form of a grwl and bark. He is still a pup but he's growing so big now.
He will stand there then start bark/growling whilst wagging his tail, but he just can't keep himself still when he does it, he always ends up walking backward and bumping into things lol. His voice is starting to break now too so he scares himself sometimes lol...he's such a wuss lol
He is a very lively dog and LOVES attention!

Re: Talking?!
Lol sounds like a staffy thing then. She sometimes sounds like she is high pitched growling, other times like a baby crying and other times a whingy chatter. It is hilarious because her mouth goes too so she does look like she is talking. And yes she says hello like that too.

Haha me and Harvey have full on conversation, although he likes to do it when we are out on a walk, so the pair of us do get some funny looks

Re: Talking?!
Lol I thought it was just something she had picked up/been taught by her previous owners. It is very cute though!

Ha ha I bet you do! Tinkerbell normally does it when she is told to do soemthing, i.e. move from my seat lol. It's as if she is answering back!

She probably is. If you have kids about and those kids answer back then the dog is gonna think "if those kids can answer mommy/daddy back then so am I" lol

Re: Talking?!
They make all sorts of noises. All a bit weird at first but after a time it almost seems normal.

Re: Talking?!
Ruby talks too, she can do the command speak and she does and say please is a bark. Can anyone remember jibbajabbas? That's what I think they sound like xxxx
Re: Talking?!
Yes I was about to say she is like a 3rd child here, (well 4th if you count the partner too lol). She is as bad for answering back as both of mine who are 4 and 2 years old.

Re: Talking?!
I miss my staffy conversations
Kita used to be the best talker but now that she doesn't hear very well she only barks and Izzy only does funny little "monkey like" noises every now and then .

Re: Talking?!
Staffys are definitely part human!!
Jethro talks alot and Winston, well I think he likes the sound of his own voice. When we are in the car he starts making some really weird noises indeed, and if he yawns he turns it into a song and dance. So so funny!!

Re: Talking?!
i was told that staffies have the most vocal range of any dog and do love to tell the tale which i found out with lemmy he loves to talk to us but his chats are punctuated with yawns which annoys him. he has sounds like an owl pigeon dove pig and a few other things i cant remember off the top of my head
