is my dog a staffy

hi people im new on here and would like to know if someone please could tell me if my 7 month old pup is a staffordshire bull terrier, i bought her as one but she seems to have very long legs. anyone who could take a look and maybe help would be much appreciated thanx

I think she looks very much like one. Does Patsy have papers? They all grow so differently as pups, up in the first year and then they fill out in the second.

Do you have a bigger picture? If you bought her as a full staff its very likely she is full, just not show standard, or if she is a cross it would be a great granparent. Looking at your picture she looks staffy to me but what colour is her fur? Solid black staffies do not exist, what you see as black staffies are really a very dark brindle. Its quite fashionable among back yard breeders now days to breed very tall, leggy staffies, to imitate a pitbull look. You may just have a long legged type, shes very cute either way.
Have people been saying 'is she a spaniel' or some silly thing? I used to get it all the time. People would ask if my boy was a cane corso, bull mastiff, presa canario etc. Some woman the other day asked if he was an american bulldog cross mastiff as thats what she owned. To be fair they did look quite similar..apart from the fifteen inch height difference!

I always have people ask what breed my girl is too
They are young and have plenty of growing and developing to do yet

she looks okay to me.

I saw the most gorgeous staffy today..she was 3 and her name was Nellie.. an old couple were walking her as they baby sitting her.. and she was so short with the shortest legs I have ever seen ( but she was really solid ) Where as Jethro has long legs and so does our pup Winston.. they are all different.

thank you for all your comments, i have put a picture of her standing up so yous can all see. she is dark brindle with patches of light brindle in it, people always say shes a staff but just wanted some advice but staff or not i wouldnt part with her. thank you all again and anymore comments would be nice.

Is It Just me or does that dog look like Its got pitbull In It ?! Not meaning to sound rude or anything! It looks like a cross to me! If you dont believe me search the Internet!

Its not Just the longer legs Its the head! The pitbull has a much bigger head than a staffy! And that dogs got a massive head for a staffy ( Which staffys dont have heads that big! ) Id say Its pitbull or staffy cross pitbull , If your still unsure take It to your vets! He be able tell you more or less!

But be careful because If that Is a pitbull It will be taken off you and destroyed! Not meaning to scare you! Just be careful! I dont know If you seen the mum and dad, And circumstances behind when you got the dog, But If you didnt see the mum and dad, That was very foolish all due respect, Because If you have got a pitbull there, Which Im no dog expert but I do know my dogs well, Its illegal! You wont get Insured you wont be able take It vets etc, Because If Its a pitbull the vets will take the pup away from you straight away and destroy It, And If you put up a fuss police will be called, Friend of mine had a pitbull owners sold It as a staffy, He went vets for Its yearly jab, And dog was destroyed he tryed putting up a fuss, But police were called, Tests were done It was found to be a pitbull and It was destroyed, If Its a cross will pitbull your ok! As a Pit Bull advocate and someone who knows the breed very well, she looks closer to a Pit Bull than a Stafford. Her legginess, the shape of her face and her size are what make me think this. I think that about a lot of dogs on the forum that other members are certain are Staffords, though. I don't know very much about the SBT beyond the breed standard and a lot of breeders don't seem to be trying for the standard these days. So I have no idea what is considered a Stafford, but to me this dog looks closer to a Pit Bull.

Yes Im pretty sure this dog has pitbull In It, Im 90% sure, Its either a pure pitbull or a staffy cross pitbull! This Is why Its Important going to a breeder that Is from the Kennel club, I know costs more the pup, But least you know Its a staffy pedgree! And nothing else! Because alot of chavs out there selling pitbulls as staffys!

Dont get me wrong not saying the dog was purchased off chavs! Just making the point!

i did see her mum and the other pups and a picture of her dad on the internet. its not the size of her head thats questioning if she is a staff or not because it is small to wot it looks in these pictures its the length of her legs. ive had a staff before and he had a small head but he was a full staff with all his papers. thank you for you comments, il just have to wait and see if she fills out as she seems to have stopped growing in height

i think she a staffy X,

it's very hard to get a real pitbull in the uk 99% of them are just cross breed that have similar to a pitbull.

the picture u have on of your staffy how old was your dog? patsy was the same size and build as yours when she was 11 weeks old

What kind of "tests" do the police do to determine that a dog is a Pit Bull?

they get expects to examine the dogs if it fall under a type then they test his behaviour.

well I think your dog has the most beautiful colouring the way her face is half black and white.. quite stunning really.

When a puppy is maturing it goes all leggy and the height seems to come all at once the dog does look a bit mismatched I bet your girl is at this stage.
I agree with catsina in that may people who have staffords are not typically shaped and due to that resemble crosses and other breeds.
I also agree that if you dont buy from a reputable kc registered breeder then you cannot determin what you are buying.
I dont think she has pit bull in her I just think that her breeding was not very complimentary to the standard.
But she is very beutiful and looks like she has a heart of gold so does it matter when you love each other.
Many stafford judges are asked to identify pit bull terriers they identify if there is staffordshire bull terrier in them

Catstena Its the vets that do blood tests and confirm to the police Its a pitbull, And for some people saying not many pitbulls about In uk, Youd be surpriced Just like anything illegal theres always a way for these Idiots to get things Into the country!

The vet can do blood tests and say whether or not Its 100% pitbull dont believe me ask ur vet!

Canine DNA tests are not AT ALL accurate at detecting breeds. They can't even get pure bred dogs correct most times. It is really upsetting that they are relying on blood tests and temperament to decide if a dog is a "pit bull type." If that's how they are enforcing it, the ban shouldn't even exist. I hope they can realize the ridiculousness of their ways eventually!!

That's within the standard, so far! She looks taller in photos. She is probably mostly Staff.
