getting another staffie?
Hi All,
Not been on here for a while, just wanted to know peoples thoughts on something Ive been thinking about.
Bonnie is 10 mnths now and is doing great, all the usual puppy problems are slowly disappearing 1 by 1. The only problem that doesn't seem to be getting better (apart from car sickness but thats another story ) is her nervousness with other dogs. She is not dog aggressive and wants to get near other dogs but as soon as she is near them her nervousness is blatantly obvious. If the other dog doesn't give her to much attention and just wants to run, play fetch Bonnie will eventually join in, albeit carefully. If the other dog is very boisterous and playful and gives her no space she wastes no time letting them know by snapping and snarling at them.
Getting another staffie has been in the back of my mind for a while but I always thought it would be best to bring another pup to the house when Bonnie is maybe a couple of years old and can lead by example, rather than trying to train 2 pups at once. Im thinking now a playmate could be a good thing for Bonnie. Just wanted peoples thoughts and advice on this.
Thanks in advance

Re: getting another staffie?
We are having the same discussion in our house about anthor pup as well. We've decided to wait until Suki is about two years old or so. She's great with other dogs but we would be worried about leaving her home alone right now with a young pup. Not that we think she would be apt to hurt the other dog but we are just very cautious.

I'd wait a few more months. If she's nervous still, then she would benefit from a while longer to mature and become more confidant.

Think. You need to conquer the dog to do nervous behaviour before bringing in another dog, if she has issues with nerves. Then her home is her safe place and if you bring a new dog in to her safe place and she still has these issuses it could lead to aggression if she feels threaghtend by the new addition.
Try lots and lots of socializing to get her used to differant dogs and sizes and behaviours etc
